| Cannot use a seperate BEC with that ESC that I know of.

If you disconnect the +5V wire in the three-wire cable between the ESC and the receiver, you can run ANY external BEC with the ESC. Removing the red wire disconnects the ESC's internal BEC from the rest of the world, allowing the external BEC to supply power to the electronics. Doing so allows the internal regulator of the ESC to supply the necessary voltage for the guts of the ESC, but disconnects its output from the rest of the system. The ESC still supplies uses the throttle signal from the RX, and the presence of the ground wire in the cable simply makes sure the battery ground reference is tied to the ESC, receiver, and external BEC, driving all three points to the same ground potential.
As for Align ESCs being variable from 5 to 6 volts, that's true, but if you don't have a voltmeter handy, you'll follow the setup manual and have the choice of 5, 5.5, or 6 volts out, depending upon the stick being set to low, middle, or high during the voltage programming step.
For those of you who weren't aware, when you've stepped into the voltage programming mode of the Align ESC, the output voltage of the ESC is set by stick position of the throttle. Low selects 5, full throttle selects 6, and mid stick selects 5.5 volts. If you have a voltmeter hooked up so you can read the voltage at the RX, then you can set the throttle stick anywhere you want to get the voltage out that you desire, as long as it's between 5 and 6 volts.
