I don't like how my heli seems to jump off the ground or drop from the air in the last 6 to 8 inches of flight. Is that a result of throttle curve .vs. pitch curve, and how would I change it so it's more gradual and more scale like?

for starting out, I would make my pitch curve be a straight curve with values of, 0-25-50-75-100, and then change your throttle curve to achieve the power you want through the pitch range... are you running a governor , and what radio are you using?

I find the harder I "throw down" at the field... the more peices i have to pick up.

we need a little more info on your current setup, pitch curve and throttle curve or governor settings would make it easier to answer your question.

Also, you flying nitro or electric, it will make a difference in setup as well.

If the wings are traveling faster than the fuselage, it's probably a helicopter.

Flying a Rappy 50 with an OS. Hyper using the default suggested curves given by TT for beginer set-up.

Your on the right track, we need to know your gearing/head speed to give you a nice throttle curve. Electrics use a V shape throttle curve as compared to a nitro, that actualy looks like a curve. In normal mode its nice to start with less negative pitch, around 25%, no need to push the heli into the ground while spooling up. The rule of thumb for normal mode is at least negative 4 degrees so you can bring the heli down in a wind.

bigdog714... I'm a little confused by you're statement, you're not using a V type curve in normal are you.

Hey Cujo,

If you have a pitch gauge and know how to use it, make sure you have 0% pitch at half stick, then put the stick all the way down and adjust the pitch curve to around 38% at low stick which should be about -3% pitch(this is in the first position across the bottom, for example on a dx7 it would be L-1-2-3-H) and try that out. You will see a lot of difference. This is for normal flight mode. In idle up you will have more of a linear pitch curve.
Hope this helps

No, in normal mode the throttle curve is more linear, this is where you find your nice gentle start so as not to spin the heli during spool up. The other thing to note is that at 50% pitch, or 0 degrees, its nice to have the same throttle setting in Normal as the base of the V curve in Idle 1. Example, in Normal from center stick to top your at 70,85,100, your Idle one V curve would be 100,85,70,85,100. This prevents the tail from kicking when you switch from Normal to Idle 1 during flight. As you become more compfortable with your flight skills, you can be a little more agressive.

This is for electrics, nitros are differant in the fact that you need to load the motor with pitch as you increase the throttle, electrics you can run wide open with no load. Your electric should be geared so that you reach your max head speed between 75-85% throttle at 0 pitch to allow for enough ceiling in the throttle to maintane your head speed during agressive manuevers.

I flew too long learning with my pitch at -3+10. It is a shock and seems very touchy when you change to -10+10 but you will get used to it very quickly. Set zero pitch at midstick.
