I am looking for a professional way to shoot with my EOS 40D and view the images from the ground. It has the tether feature I was wondering if anyone has found a way to do it wirelessly.

Thanks
Wes

40D

Wes,

Be very specific on what your intentions are with your heli and camera equipment so that others may help you.

I'm sure there is something about the 40D in the archives. Triggering the camera is as simple or as complicated as you want to make it. You can use servos or modify a Canon remote trigger using an electronic switch out of your remote receiver for the camera rig.

For the downlink via RF you will need a composite video output into a rf transmitter of your choice (900, 1.2, or 2.4 ghz) with composite inputs.

Hope this helps,
Scott

Shooting

I was looking for ways other people were shooting. I have been reading quite extensively about how others are doing, and I haven't found a thread I like. When I really would like to be able to do is Use the tethered shooting function, which requires a USB cable to be plugged in, I am 99% sure it only uses the 2 data ports in the USB and does not require the power ports to be powered.

So could I plug those one data wire into an RF transmitters like you would use for video, and have a receiver on the helicopter on a separate channel and a transmitter on the ground, (basically a transceiver). I have been looking at wireless USB cables, and I haven't found anything GREAT yet. At least not to work with this kind of range, this is all going on a turbine observer by the way.

There are people who make items for the Canon Cameras, like your describing!

Search in this forum, if that fails! Many are using a similar setup and have bought products that use the helicopters channels to actuate the shutter and some do much more. tabbytabb, nooobs, daytonabeach and a select group on here would have all that info, Most likely on hand! Links to the manufacturers or possible other solutions. I'm not that familiar with these things but they are

Their all very informative and knowledgable!

Hope this info is helpful!

Wes,

If I read your post correctly, I believe you are looking for a wireless USB transceiver? Is this correct?

You can find what you are looking for on the internet. The WUSB technology is used in mice and keyboards and you need something with a little more kick if I understand your post. Depending on how you approach your project you could start at the chip level or find something that is more ready to use.

Wisair dot com is a place to start...
