I have one in my T-Rex 600N. It was originally in my Raptor 50 that died when the JR 821 gave up. It's a great engine. Never failed and runs as smooth as any engine. It doesn't have near the power of the new engines. It's a fine engine till you get into hard 3d with lots of collective and cyclic. For basic aerobatics it's great.

Easy on fuel, hard to tune, hard to keep consistent.

Had two of them and both been great little engines. Great on fuel and good power, not a OS Hyper but good.

If you are going to push them hard, be aware that they fall flat pass 17500rpm. I kept the mid (low) range rich when I pushed them and never had any issues. Keep an eye on the original bearings!

As for tunning they seem to run consistent with a header tank. Without it, the needle leaned out as the fuel level went down, no issues once I added a header tank.

Mufflers: the original TT mufler works well, and the MP2 adds lots of torque, and ups the fuel consumption, still less thirsty than an OS 50.

My second TT50H, needed a .004 shim added to the head to handle the 30% fuel better in the summer with the MP2. It also made the engine smoother and a hair easier to tune.

Stay away from any high timing mufflers like the Align or the MP5 or MP5SB, it will make the engine really finiky.

Don't expect it to pull like an OS 50hyp or OS55, but they are perfect for hovering, flying around and mild 3D work, and easy on fuel.

I Hope that I'm not highjacking this thread but I myself have a TT 50 in my Venture 50 and have a spare OS 40E Carb is it better than the TT one and if so. will it work with a TT 50 motor (it does fit the crankcase).

Honestly..No good news to report other than they last forever...Very hard to tune, very un-consistant, and its always to lean somewhere or to rich somewhere....I ran mine so lean to get any amount of power out of it, forget about running it cool..Just run it lean to get some performance, because they'll run lean forever.

There is some hope, though. Do a quick search on the "low-end needle mod"..alot of people did it to the TT50 engine with great results.

Cool Ill look up the mod. Does anybody have any links? I dont need much power since this is my first Nitro heli. So I think this motor will be all right. I just want a low hassle motor to learn with. When I can out fly the motors power then it will become a back up. I dont need the latest and greatest. Atleast with my skills.

I just bought another TT50H from RHPS for $46 shipped - going to put in a Raptor as a trainer, tune it for 15% fuel and should be good to go. If that doesn't work out it'll go on the nose of an airplane.

The first one I had was bought used. I didn't get it to run consistent but I didn't put a whole lot of time on it either. Ended up selling it to someone that wanted a TT-50. It actually started and ran fine but I always had a tail kick that I thought was engine related. Never did figure it out. This time I will try a bit more.

Hard to tune then Hyper50. So, just keep it a bit on the rich side to be safe. Even running fat, it flys almost 13 minutes on my Raptor 50 for a tank of gas.

So, good training motor for hovering.

I did a mod on the Thunder Tiger Pro 50H motor, with a OS 40E carb. It runs beter than my OS50sxh. It's very economical on fuel and the inconsistent needle setting blues are gone. It has very good power and runs really smooth.

It's a very easy mod. You need a 40E carb, remove the plastic shim from the OS carb and use a blade from a fueler gauge to make a new shim for you with some scissors. Cut a regtangle and bend it around the carb. I used a rubber hammer to lightly tap the carb into place as the first shim caused the carb to loosen when it was opperated. So try get it in as tight as possible. (use persuasion - like the rubber hammer)

Once fitted tighten the lock screw and your good to go. Gone is your inconsitent needle settings.

Very reliable motor.

Dagigalo,
It initially ran a bit lean on the mid range but I did the needle modification on it ( very easy to do)and its fine.
Don't be put off it is a very good engine, expensive if you paid the full advertised price RRP of £100 plus, however when they come for a few extra pounds ontop of the Raptor kit price they are well priced.

Mine is still running after 4 and a half years in a Raptor 50. I only run it 10 percent nitro and it doesn't put out masses of power, but it runs very well.
I have only had two in flight cuts, one was the clunk tube rotting out and the other was a failed plug.
Took the head off it last week and carefully removed the bit of carbon on the piston and cleaned the carb out. It will probably run for another year now.
I have noticed people are always ready to knock them, but with a little tweaking they run really well.

Thanks everybody. It sounds like to me that I will modify the needle at the machine shop. If that does not work Ill try the 40E carb its only around $28 or so. For $40 I think Ill enjoy the hell out of this thing. When I need more power Ill keep it around as a back up motor.
