I have a 50SE I purchased used two years ago: hyper 50, stock clutch
muscle pipe, stock tail blades and boom, main gear, auto hub, belt and idler pulleys. I am having three problems: One; excess belt dust on tail case ( belt was flipped over and re-tensioned for ambient outside temp before last flight) perhaps it is a bit loose--there is no lubricant of any type on belt. Two; there is a crunching ratcheting
type noise mainly on spool up, noise is quiter if spool up is done more aggressively with more throttle, noise can be heard on spool down as well, tail blade rotational speed can be seen to vary I believe when noise is heard as well.Third on full power climb out the tail will let go a bit and the engine will rev up a bit as well. Top pitch is 10 deg with 600 mm black and white TT blades
15% nitro power master fuel, gov is turned off, top end fuel mix is close- 1 1/2 turns out at 30 deg f outside. 401/9254 65% gain in HH linkage silky smooth. Is this a slipping clutch, a slipping auto clutch or ?. I put in a new liner some time back but dont know how many hot-starts since then. Auto clutch lubed some at last dissembly with TT lube, not sure how many flights since then but a lot of shelf time. Never changed mainshaft, not sure how many flight hours on machine. This is a problem-- any answers or advice is appreciated thanks. PS. tail pulley pin is ok, all tail bearings in rear tail case are ok, have not checked belt teeth or drive pulley at main gear yet.

Possibly your belt is getting too loose and banging against inside your tailboom. Put a piece tape around your tailboom and tighten it down. Also look at tail pulley guides inside your frame see if there lips are worn. They are often overlooked and plastic lips wear down to knife edge and start working on your belt.

+1 on the belt loosening up. Mine was showing up upon spooling up. The belt would catch to the point of stopping the rotors momentarily causing the heli to "kick".

Try not. Do or do not. There is no try

Yeah, tighten it up. Also, if you are experiencing colder temps now, the boom shrinks just enough to loosen the belt, so you need to retighten the belt after letting the helicopter sit outside for awhile. I use the tried and true method of loosening the support and boom bolts, hang the helicopter by the boom, and tighten the boom clamp bolts while still letting the helicopter dangle by the boom. Then tighten the boom support. Works awesome, no more catching and clattering.
