My Posts This: Topic Forum | A small discovery on the Direct Drive servos with our 1 to 1 swash plate.
This weekend I played around with the Expo on my helicopter. I preach on how "True" this helicopter flys, and it does exactly that, but I was having a little problem with a couple Piro Meneuvers. I was kind of puzzled at first, but then a buddy of mine and I put our heads together.
We started reducing my Expo, and it started to feel alot better. I actually ended up going from 35 to -15 on my expo. We examined the way a Bell Crank system and standard swash plate worked with, and without expo; and the travel that you gain through changing the ratios by using bell cranks. We quickly learned why I was having a mechanical feel to my Heli during stirring meneuvers. It was the expo.
I am so use to running around 25 to 35 in all my old stuff that had bell cranks, that I completely forgot to take in consideration what Expo does to a Direct Drive servo system, with a 1 to 1 swash plate.
So if you are having a mechanical feel, A quarky, not so smooth feel, or a funky translation, During Stirring meneuvers, start to remove your expo rapidly until it cleans up. It works, trust me. Took all of about 5 minutes to go from 30 to -15, and man, what a huge difference in the way it feels now, and looks. Still True and Square, but now it doesn't have that funny translation, or feel during hard Piro Meneuvers.
Hope this helps
