Hi,

I have a T-rex 500 ESP with stock motor/esc. I'm thinking in upgrading it with a new motor. I want at least the same flightime than stock motor (about 5 minutes with 100% throttle curve in idle up 2 with 6S 2600mah 35C Hyperions) with equal or slighty more power and, very important, cooler than stock. I don't want to modify my frame to install the new motor, and if it's possible, I would like to continue using the align 60A ESC.

I have seen this options:

* Scorpion HK3026-1600KV: Good Power/Price/Cooling/quality. Flightime?
* Tonic-x Z15A-1620KV: Good Efficiency/Price. Bad quality?
* Neu 1706-1.5Y (I think the Neu 1706H don't fit into the T-rex 500 frame). Expensive but seems the most efficient. Don't go good governed.
* C-5016 BL Atom 500 motor: Good power, cooling, quality and price. Flightime?
* Savox BSM-4050: I don't have almost info about this motor. I heard it has more power and same flightime than Align 500L.
http://www.savoxtech.com.tw/bsm-4050.htm
* Hacker A40-10s (1600kv) 8-Pole: I don't have much info about this motor, I heard they run hot.

I haven't considered medusa motor (they are so hot).

What do you think is the best for suit my needs?

Thanks guys!

I would be interested to hear peoples views on these motors as well, but I'm not sure about the Savox at only 880W seems pretty close ot the stock motor.

I'd say the Savox is the same just rated differently. The 500L is rated for 650W and 800W for 30sec. The Savox, 888W for 15sec.

The NEU 1706 was specifically designed for 500 size helicopters and fits the frame perfectly. It’s the most efficient motor you can get and has more power than the stock motor but you need to use a larger pinion gear.

I fly the Scorpion HK3026 myself because it’s the most powerful motor you can get for the price. It comes in several Kv’s that work well so you can get what you need for the way that you fly. With a good 30C battery it delivers more power than I need so I am very happy with it.

I have the Hacker motor and am very happy with it so far (about 15 flights). Mine does't run hot at all on 6s/ mild 3D.

I think Medusa got out of the R/C business.

I know the scorpion is rated at 70amps, so it's unlikely you can use it with your stock esc.

http://www.scorpionsystem.com/catal.../S-HK30-1600KV/

And its unlikely any motor can get you the same flight time if it gives more power (draws more current), unless you dont mind your packs coming down with lower volts (& hotter). The stock 500L motor is as efficient as it gets.

For me, I changed my 500L bearings once at about 200 flights, then it lasted another 100 flights before the bearings went bad again. I tried changing bearings again but couldnt. So I went for Jive80LV/Minipyro20-08 combo. This motor is rated at 1200watts and makes the blades unboggable when I do tictocs. But my 40cycle old Turnigy 6s 2650 30c cannot power this combo properly and it often refuses to spool up at startup or powercut. Good motors also need good packs!

Im running a Tonic z20a 980kv thats rated something like 1200 watts compared to the stock I think about 700 watts, you cant go by the numbers as they dont make any sense, according to the numbers the Scorpion 1600 is nearly double the power of the 500L, I would go by the amp draw rateing if anything, the amp rateing on my motor is about the same as the stock 500L and I would say its a bit less powerful, so I would not bother with the Tonic Z15, my z20 is not too bad, but I think it might be causeing my tail to blow out in backward flight due to bogging, so I dont think its as good as the stock, but Im also running fibreglass blades which could be makeing it seem worse than it is, I wont ever try and save money by useing FG blades ever again I think there crap and now Il have to buy CF`s anyway.

I fly the 3026-1600 with stock 500 ESC and have no issues at all.
The motor makes power equal if not slightly better that the stock motor.
Both ESC and motor come down cool after a flight.

I'm running 25C 2600 batteries so you should have no issues with the 35C's.

I also fly for 5 minutes a pack and put back between 1600 and 1800mah.

The scorp is a direct drop in. You will however have to change the connectors on the ESC to fit the motor. (motor comes with connectors.)

Hope this helps.

I've had the Scorpion 3026 1400kv with a 15T pinion on four Trex 500's.
I have used the Align 60amp ESC on all of them.

I use a 100% flat curve and get about four to five minutes of flying.

I also replaced the stock motor on my Trex 600 with a Scorpion and saw no difference in power.
This led me to think I could replace my crash damaged Scorpion in my 500 with a stock motor.WRONG.
Huge power loss from the Scorpion to the stock 500L.

Assuming you run 6S lipo,the 1210kv would need at least a 16T pinion to get 2600 rpm's.
I think I would go 17T personally.
Actually,I would go 1400kv.lol....

Anywho,a 17T would get you to 2800 rpm's.

Thank you guys, I think I will probably go with Scorpion 1600KV or, if budget is OK, with the Neu. I think both motors are what I'm looking for.

I run the 3026-1600KV scorpion on a 13 tooth in my 500. I can get 4 full minutes of heavy 3D and 6-7 minutes of light 3D/sport flying with a 3000 pack. This is using 70-75% capacity.

Some say you have to upgrade the ESC. But I am not so sure as I data logged one of my flights on a 20C Turnigy pack and it only pulled 45 amps peak with 13 deg pitch. If I flew it really hard I may have been able to push 50-55 but either way lower then the 60 amp stocker. The 1600 is rated at 1470 watts. I know the 1400KV has a good bit more power and may then require the upgrade.

I also want to note that I am using a 75amp ESC from a 600E with a Castle CCBEC to run the servos. I only did this because it came with my old 500 that someone had upgraded. However the numbers dont lie from the logger.

Ohh, and the power from the 1600kv is rediculous. I had the pitch dialed all the way up to 15 deg and it has no problem pulling it but I think that may have contributed heavily to puffing 4 packs so I dialed it back.

I finally bought Hyperion HS3026-1600KV (same as Scorpion but seems it has better bearings).

Thanks for everyone!
