My Posts This: Topic Forum | Alright guys, here it is. I have finally tamed the beast (somewhat) I was able to get in 4 flights last night. I changed a lot of things on the heli from all of your suggestions.
Coolice, Thank you so much for all the help and suggestions you have gone above and beyond man and I thank you!
knightofcarnage, you have been a great help and a lot of your suggestions really ended up working out.
Anyway, after switching out the servo horn and moving the ball in to around 4.5 - 5 mm. from center it brought the wag down a good amount, but it still wasn't good enough.
I then re-adjusted the entire positioning of the tail servo and re-trimmed the whole heli mechanically as close as possible. right now i am trimmed out mechanically with only 3 clicks of trim from the radio to get the tail flying straight.
The last thing i have done (and I can't believe I didn't think of this in the first place). I went through and checked how the ESC was programmed from my friends previous settings. To my shock it was in Heli mode with (governor) turned ON. WOW!! everyone knows how poorly the Align ESC's perform in governor mode and i was having some issues with the ESC varying power when flying in IDL 1, when i would pull collective down, like in a flair it would drop power significantly and I think it was fluctuating power in a hover as well to keep the constant headspeed. Overall this would create problems with a tail not holding properly and creating some wag as well. Well, I re-programmed the ESC and it is now in Heli (MODE 1) with only soft start NO (governor).
The next thing to really lock in the tail will be to purchase the shorter tail blades from Align and also maybe try going even closer in with the ball to the center of the servo by using a round servo horn and drilling a hole around 3.5 mm from center.
Anyway, Right now the tail is holding enough to at least make it flyable. I am really excited about this heli and look forward to honing it in even more as time goes on.
Thank you SO MUCH guys for all your help and I will check back with you all again if there are any other issues. Take care and happy flying everyone!
Cheers,
-Clint
