Hi all,
I just crashed my 450 pro and am thinking of putting some woodies on this bird. Do u have to glue and epoxy like on bigger wood blades? Any suggestions on good cheap blades for the 450. I was thinking red/white align.

Cheap Woodies

Try these!!
They are carbon fiber and i fly them on my 450. If you really want woodies then try these. I used them all the time before I got my scorpion-6

Align Blades

The Align Pro 325's are the only ones i've used. They are pretty good but are more expensive than the ones i linked you to. If your not doing any crazy 3d then as long as you balance and track them good then they'll fly fine. Also I've never glued or epoxied these blades.

I have been flying the Align 325's red/white on my 4s heli up to 3200 Hs. Full 3D, tic tocs, piro flips etc. Never broke them in flight. Not even once. Yep! I know that is too high of a head speed. I crashed lot in my small yard trying funky tricks. I only loose $13 on the blades this way. There awesome.

Well for only about a dollar more you could be flying carbons(see link above) then you would be safer and have alot more pop to your flying.

I know we can't all be here forever so I write my words on the face of today.

VooDooX,
I got some glass blades from xheli.com and they seem OK so far. What do you think of the EXI blade type? I have never broken a blade in flight, but I am not doing super high g forces either. The EXI blades come in various sizes as well. I have the 335mm type. I tried a set of Trex red/white 325 blades and they were OK, but the EXI blades run quiet.
Do you recommend the long or short blades?

I would shop around some. Also what you use can be dependent on what phase of the learning curve you are in and what your style is.

If you are early in learning how to fly / hover woody blades are fine and actually may help. The woodies are not as strong and give a bit of dihedral which improves hover stability a little. But more important is they tend to cause less damage to your copter because the break pretty easy in a crash and therefore transmit less energy to your head. Until you get into fast forward flight can do figure eight and are not crashing often (its part of the learning curve) then woodies are fine, cheaper and do less damage. You don't need to go for carbon fiber and the added expense till you need it. No need to empty your pocket!!!

If you get to doing inverted hard banks roll and flips then good carbon fiber blades are the way to go. They are more rigid so the copter is more predictable. Blade strikes are less likely particularly in inverted or hard down collective. The copter will be more responsive in general.

I've been using the HeliStorm 325 and find them to be extremely good for sport flying and 3d and the fit, finish and balance are absolutely perfect. Price is also at the bottom from what I see for a quality carbon fiber blade. For competition 3D many prefer the Mavrik Wide Chords. These have a more aggressive airfoil so you get a little more pop from hard but at the expense of flying time.

I own a 450seV2, and 450Pro, I started flying the align woodies but did not like the way they fly. They work for basic stuff, and you get what you pay for with them, after learning the basics I started using the align CF blades and love them. I have also had the Radix 325mm and they seem to fly a little better than the aligns. I don't auto the 450's unless I have to so that is not really a factor for me on the little helis. For now I only get align CF, and Radix.....they work great for me and balance right out of the box so for now I'm sticking with them!

These are not carbon fiber blades. They are plastic with a carbon fiber shaft. I have tried these. They are heavy and flexible. Better than plain plastic but they do not have the same performance as a carbon fiber blade.

I got boom hits even on landings. Thy were durable but beat my head up. I did not like them.

I also found the Helistorm blades to be equal to the radix blades but lower in cost.

Depends how you fly, and budget restraints!

The Align Pro-Woodies 'despite what some say', are very good. i have never had a set far enough out to warrant balancing!

They are good for Aggresive sport flying! at least 90% off.

Best part is if youre pushing youre luck, they just happen to splinter 'just' right on impact!. without imposing to much stress on everything else.

Some of the cheaper carbons and even GF'S fly 'marginaly' better, but tend to cause more damage 'when' it all goes teets up?

If you are sport flying (including flips, rolls, etc) and crash pretty often, then I would run the Align Woodies. They are great blades and will help save the heli in a crash. They shatter and that is a good thing.
