What made you all want to fly rc helis? Me it was portability. Flying planks I had to deal with removing wings and places close to where I live to fly?

It all started for me 6 years ago when i was at my local flying field club.there was a guy hovering a trex450 and was mesmerized by it and how the heli was suspended up in the air.caught my attention, and had the bug ever since!.now i look back and wondering how i came a long way by not knowing how heli works in the begining and becoming a sponsored pilot at the end.i guess if you put your mind to work, anything is possible.one thing i learned so valuable about this hobby is to be patience and never quit and give up!.also a very expensive hobby!.

For me it was something that a lot of people around here DIDN'T do except a few. I watched those few and was MUCH more intrigued and amazed than watching a floating pine tree covered in balloon material fly in a straight line.

I had always been amazed by rotary flight. Even when I was little when they had the Stat Medi heli shows/tours I always went to that only.

I however went in as completely naive and didn't realized HOW darn expensive it is. Oh well, already in too deep to go back now.

Regards, Brandon

Because an airplane is just plane fun and a helicopter is exciting and challenging. I'm up for challenges. No really..why I fly is because I worked for a helicopter cropduster who flew the R/C Helicopters and he got me hooked. I could not afford one until I was older and out on my own. Now I enjoy flying both R/C Helicopters and the Full Scale Helicopters.

Grew up in an RC family as my dad and grandfather fly planes. I had always had the itch to get a heli but never did until I graduated high school in 2006. I was able to buy all I needed and got a heli. Due to college, I didn't get to fly much until the summer of 2008. Will graduate this May and am looking forward to being able to fly more frequently.

about 8 years ago I mastered the 3D planes ,we were on fire, and made lots of new flying buddies. and thanks to brushless and lipo tech planes seemed to rule. then 6 years ago I met a guy flying a rapt. 90
at our local park, this guy was good enough to convince me that I needed a heli.

I was first hooked in the early 70s. I had just been reassigned from a 2nd Nam tour to Ft. Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska. Like so may others of that time, I had become fascinated with the world of helicopters through the visuals of various evolutions of the UH1.

The only decent hobby shop at the time was on Menard Road a few miles from the airport. (Local lore claimed that the meandering path of Menard road - as it progressed from the airport towards down town Anchorage - was first established by the path of a drunken cow - but I digress.)

Hanging from the ceiling of that shop was a scale EC something or other detailed exactly in the scheme of one of the local TV affiliates. Nearby was a used Kavan Jet Ranger looking for a new home. I think I actually made several trips there just to lust after the possibility of ever owning/flying one of those models.

I settled on a GMP Cricket. That progressed to a Schluter Heliboy, then a GMP Competitor Pro. We left Anchorage in 1990, but the hobby, for me, has had many stops since then - all wonderful.

For me, the challenge. Both learning to fly and the complex mechanics. I love modifying and trying new gadgets.

Why fly helis?
I was into high-end puter-based flight sims 5 years ago when I saw that TV show on RC that Chris Chianelli did on DIY, the episode abt RC flight sims.

Right away I bought G3 and flew it for a few months before deciding to find an RC park nearby to see what folks were doing. I got out of my Jeep at Bennett Field and the first guy I saw flying was Alan Jr with his blue R90.

Bada-boom bada-bing.

I drove home that afternoon and phoned HeliProz for an R50 package.

The day the hair on the back of my neck stops standing up whenever I fly (helis, planks, gliders, anything) will be the day I drop this hobby.

Hasn't happened yet. Probably never will.

watching some guy take his brand new GMP Cobra into a hover, spin it up to a high RPM (throttle was a separate slider I think, he flew single stick) then shoot it up into the sky. My 16/17 year old brain was frozen. He then did a high speed pass and an aileron roll. Man I wish I could remember his name. He flew for the military at White Sands and we were flying at the northeast model club.

I traded some equipment for a Cricket the next year. After the tail wire slipped and it did a few piro's I landed it without breaking and sold it - realizing I could not afford to wreck it.

Glad I now can fly them.

.. P-gas, T700, V50c/u, R50T, T4/250 and a Cricket ..

i got a little cheesy micro heli at radio shak (micro masquito) and it was a challenge to get it to fly right. i read others on the internet saying it was junk but wouldn't fly very well. i had made mine fly great. when i did a search online to find parts i saw these huge nitro machines and i was amazed. i had no idea they made machines such as these. i'm still amazed and more broke than ever. oh and i just found another masquito knock off for $10 on line and it now flys great. i gave $80 at radio shak and i thought that was expensive for a toy heli at the time.

fly it like you stole it

My buddy both a crappy plane at Walmart.
I was the only one who could keep it in the air for about 15 seconds, than I flew out of range and flew into the neighbours yard and his dogs chewed the plane up

Next day i went to the hobby store for a proper plane, since they were too big, i got a Blade CX2...after demolishing the living room with it i went for bigger and bigger til ig got a 600 nitro which was the best heli ever..til I saw the 700...now I got a 700 and a 250.
I've kept the Blade CX 2 just for sentimental values, I haven't flown it for a very long time

Fly it like you stole it!!!
