Raja, I know you’re a fan of SAB's. What do you recommend in the 710mm variety for the Spectra-G?

I've been reading up on them a little and would like to try out a set and also gain a little more visibility of the disk.

Thanks

I like the 710 SAB's but i'm not a hard 3Der by no means but they do show up good and fly good. I got mine from QWW and he had the best deal on them. I've flew them a number of times on my Trex 700 before i put them on my Spectra but i don't have my spectra setup and flying good so i really don't know how they perform. Take a look at QWW before you buy a set.

Thanks

Blades

I do like the SAB 710 blades for the Spectra. I'm flying the newer style ones which are stiffer than the originals. Newer style is 1/3 black 2/3rds white.

The white disk, which at first doesn't seem important, will help you greatly with orientation not in everyday flying, but at the worst moment when you're confused and falling out of the sky fast trying to figure out which way is up.

Due to this I don't like black blades like the v-blades for example. Sure I can fly them, but I lose the extra queue of orientation when or if I get in trouble.

I'm also flying a set of Radix 710 blades on my 1005. They are mostly black with about 15% white at the tips, not as visible as the SAB's. I tried a set to see how they perform, and honestly they seem to behave very much like the SAB's. Due to this I prefer the SAB's, and I bought a spare set of SAB's for my 1005 for the future.

Weight?

I'm running the Radix too, but would like to see extra queue of orientation as you mention.

There are 3 different 710's in the new style (not Red Devils)
170 gram, 180 and FAI 190 gram.

Which ones do you have and where are you buying them from?

Thanks.

Thanks smallplanes, I'll take a look at QWW

180 gram

I was buying them from Minair, but many different vendors carry them.

Cool, I was thinking the heavier of the 2 non FAI would be a little bit better for autos and not too snappy.

I'll have to call HeliProz, since MA doesn't sell retail to the public anymore and HeliProz doesn't list them. Could be they just haven't logged them in the system yet.

I do see them on other sites, but mostly out of stock. They must be very popular.

I've just started using a set of the SAB's on my Spectra, and so far so good. Raja, do you find you need to balance them before running a new set, or do they come in pretty much dead-nuts on like RotorTechs?

Balance

I always balance my blades, and I would most likely be the guy around with some balance tape on my rotor techs if I owned some.

No pair is perfect except for one I've had over the years. Everything needs something from a little piece of tape to a big piece in a few layers.

If you have the koll rotor pro balancer, check them and check your rotor-techs. You may be surprised to find they need something to balance, but if you bolt on any CF blade these days and go fly it its going to work as well, thought it won't be the best it can be.

OK, enough talk and time to go flying, see you guys later. I need to go put 3 flights on my 1005 to make 2200. By the time I come back, Wally will have finished typing his heat soak reply which he's in the middle of now...

yea

The sabs and Radix fly very close to each other. The loading is softer at least to me on the sabs. Radix flew a little more like vblades.

The blades fly great at the 1800+ range. Not so good at 1600 with wind 15+.
