I have personally flow about 12-15 lb payload on a maxi 2 and felt it was straining the bird {a lot}. I sure wouldn't recommend a 20lb. or higher payload on the heli.
That makes the overall weight of the heli somewhere around 27-29 lbs.

I'm allways right 97% of the time..............So who cares about the other 4%??

tabbytabb flies at 27lbs., do not know how often he does, but it is able to be done safely.
Mine has always been around 8kg when I've flown it. Getting heavier by the moment!

There are no thrust bearings on the main shaft in the Maxi Joker. You have to check the main bearings very frequently if you lift that much weight. The radial bearing must be screaming every time you lift off.

and it is a good idea to slip some heat shrink tubing over the bearing to keep dirt out.
do a fit check on an the shaft out of the heli, shrink it so it snug on the wide race, but NOT TIGHT on the shaft so it rotates independently by itself. Trim the ends off to fit so it does not bind against the upper bearing block.
As shown in the photo it slides off the wide race and down the tube if it moved it by hand.

EDIT
see my post further down the page as some questions were raised about this idea.

Gerd updated some components in the last few years.

Mine is 11.5kg at the moment, no problem, but wil soon weigh 13kg, i dont consider that a problem either, other than shorter flight times.
I have RT 830s and a HS of 1260-1280

ok just checking sorry for my ignorance about jokers..but what size blades do you swing with it? and also what is the max payload you can haul for 5 min?

I need to add this about my "dust cover mod" on the thrust bearing.

"I was asked if this might cause a problem and if I've flown with it.
So just to give more info in general about it. Yes to flying with it!

It works because the Thrust Bearing "upper load disc" diameter matches the diameter of the "lower shaft bearing" flange (p/n 72 @ 21mm dia.) and the "lower load disc" is even smaller.
So you shrink down to the 22mm diameter size of the "upper load disc" and not on the 18mm "lower load disc". So it does not bind up because your not shrinking down on it and it is still free to rotate.

As I said this was some plastic type of heat shrink I used.
Using the plastic heat shrink and practicing at it, you could get it to shrink down on the thickness of upper load disc and still bulge out to near full diameter of the shrink wrap just at the bottom edge/lip of the upper load disc so there would be more then enough room.
Then at the lower end of the heat shrink on the tube spacer/cover on the shaft you could shrink it down again to come close to making a tight seal, but not making a tight seal. just enough to keep it from sliding down on the spacer. So you leave it un-shrunken in the middle.
When you do this you do not aim the heat gun at the heat shrink, but only come near it with the edge of the hot air flow.
Works for me!

oh boy another edit!
Okay, thinking about it I would stay with the cheap plastic heat shrink vs. the rubber type since there IS the possibility of the spacer tube, which does rotate, creating enough friction to shrink the heat shrink some more. So...put some grease on the shaft spacer tube.
This did not/has not happened on mine, but it would be my luck if somebody went out and did this mod and that happened causing problems with the bearing and shaft.
I think the strength of the motor and strength of the shaft would overcome the plastic heat shrink if it did shrink down tight.

So in the plain english legalise that lawyers don't use...your screwed if you followed my suggestion and this did happen and your blades stopped spinning. I'm just posting something that is working for me, use it at your own risk

Wingman, the standard blade for the maxi joker 2 is 800mm.
a longer blade guys have been using is the 830mm Rotortech semi-symetrical blade that has a length of safety-wire running down on the inside to prevent the blades from becoming a hazard if you crashed with it.

The "record" so far is 27lbs overall weight that I know of.
Going above that is really risking not being able to auto-rotate safely.
The max weight for 5 minutes? What kind of max weight did you have in mind? If your going to carry a heavy load it would probably be best done using 12s batteries for better current flow and 5 minutes is no problem for the joker, (imo).
