Hello.

I would like to tint my TT Agusta 109 plastic windows. How can I do that? I would like the windows to get a golden/light brown colour but to allow to see through them.
Any help would be appreciated.

Mix a little brown into clear then spray with an airbrush. Very light coats to keep it even, with a little dry time in between coats to keep it even.

If you spray it on too heavy, you will get stripes.

The LHS sells tinting paint that I've used before on a canopy.
Nice tinting controlled by how many coats you use, but not very optically clear.

If the windows are pretty flat, you could use auto tint film.

In my experience, painting will make the plastic fairly brittle and it will break very easy. I use RIT dye, which is for clothing. Put it in a pot of warm water on low heat (don't melt the plastic), put the canopy in and check it every few minutes until it is the shade you want.

I've tried the RIT dye. I could not get to work on my project. I tried many times on scrap trim and it either would not take the dye or would warp the plastic. My point, test it on scrap if you have any.

Airbrushing works good with practice, but if you are running nitro it could be a little tricker. You will need to spray fuel proof clear over it after.

Timaya makes a paint product just for this purpose. Check your LHS. Thinner than clear will be, never did attack the plastic. Very slow process to get right. Just hints of tint over several days to get the proper amount, I believe they even have the shade you are looking for.

I don't think RIT Dye will work well on clear plastic. You can use Pactra R/C Window Tint on the "inside" (no fuel proofing needed) of the windscreen but it takes a deft hand to use it properly. Heat some water and let the can sit in the water for a few minutes to get warm. The paint will flow better when it is heated. Apply mist coats very lightly and do not stop as you sweep back and forth as it will pool and run creating a very ugly mess. You must stop and gauge your progress before applying another coat. It is an excellent choice and looks great if done correctly. My suggestion would be to try the spray on a clear piece of scrap lexan first and practise. I've used the window tint on some of the R/C cars in my gallery.

Thank you all very much for your help. I will try one of Tamiya paints, PS31 or another one suitable for plastic, because PS31 is for polycarbonate and I don´t know if it will work with the plastic clear windows of my TT AGusta 109.

Hello all.
I used tamya PS31 smoke spray and simply love the results, light tinting in a golden/brown colour. I just applied one coat because I wanted a light effect and not very dark.
