He could be checking the gyro direction, blade tracking or even breaking the engine-in? I wouldn't ever use one but I'm not going to shoot it down becouse it's unsafe becouse I dont think it is!

Thats an expensive box. I believe I can make my own for about 20$ from wood and a swivel from the hardware store if I needed one of these things which I don't.

I didn't see a hint of resonants whilst the heli was tethered. At what point was it unsafe?

Compared to the nit wits who fire up their models for the first time with the gyro reversed this would save the model.

Ya, thats nuts, everybody knows you should strap it to the top of a ladder on the first run up, that way you can track the blades.

As to the gyro, might be an idea to check the direction of it before you motor up not after.
