I built another Century Hawk pro and converted it to a 50 size. the plan is to put it into a funkey airwolf 50size fuselage. Just to see how it flys without fuselage I installed DS821 on cyclic and pitch. It hovered nicely and I did one climb out. she climbed out nicely. brought her down and waited for the servo's to arrive. I ended up installing the Hitec 635(analog) on the cyclic and Hitec 645MG (analog) on the Pitch. hovered again and did one climb out. she didn't punch up like the DS821. The Hitec has more torque but the transit speed is slower.

DS821 72oz 0.17sec

H-635MG 106oz 0.24sec

Could I have just got a Hitec 6635(digital) @ 70oz 0.18sec for the Pitch?

821's in a 50 size nitro is NOT a good idea. They will eventually fail.

I put the fun in dysFUNctional :)

For sure , stay away from the 821's. They are not recommended for nitro helis at all. Invest in some good servos...

Poor guy! He's saying how much better his digitals are, and then he get's told they stink! lol

Reminds me of the time Szabo Jr. was at our FF without a night ship, so I loaned him my R50. During the flight, I was bragging to the guys how great the machine flew, having just upgraded to 9252's. After his flight, I asked Alan how he liked it, and his comment was, "it's a little slow". BOY, did I get heckled by the group!

Nrad, during my servo testing a few years ago, I found servo specs are not always up to par, especially with Hytecs. You should invest in some half-way decent digital servos, the difference will be much more apparent than what you have seen thus far. For example, 9252's are still great for what you need, and last a lot longer than their metal geared replacement 9451.
If $ is tight, I'd go with used quality servos over new low end ones any day!

821s are not the greatest heli servo and with the way most of us fly they will eventually fail, with that being said a friend of mine has run a set of 821s in a trex 600 for over 2 years and lots of flights without failure. for a scale type flyer they work just fine.

now that you know how much better the 821 digital flies imagine the performance gains from a set of real good heli servos

CRASH! GLUE! REPEAT!

JR specifically warns against using that servo in a 50 size nitro.

Thanks for everyone's input. I'll give the hitec 5625MG a try. It should be more than enough in a scale 50size. I'll still keep the 645.

I think I'm going to hang on to the 821's. I won't use them for my heli's but maybe they will become useful for some other project. Like: shooting down a RC plane with an AK.

Oh, that's smart. Shooting an areal target with a weapon that has the capacity to throw a lethal projectile a couple miles when fired at a sufficient upward angle.

Hope you live in the middle of nowhere. I hear negligent homicide in conjunction with improper use of a firearm is a fun set of charges to face down.

Maybe I should have said "Rocket Launcher" or put it in the water and use a "Torpedo". Or better yet, shoot it to the moon. I wonder what data they ever got from that moon mission a month ago.

I did used HS5625 on my Raptor. Not very good servo for for heli. It all boil down to two major problems. First, the servo cannot center worth sh$%. I called Hitec and was told it is a inherent problem with all metal gear servo. So, I told them my Futaba, JR metal gear servo center just fine. Second problem, it's a very slow servo for heli, assuming if you will try certain degree of 3D. A simple tic-toc will likely require more engine power as it takes longer for servo to reach its required position.

I end up using HS6965HB instead.

Why not try the Align servos? I'm using the DS620 servos on cyclic and love them.
