e-Electric Conversions > Top bearing mount for 700E motor?

I have the Helidirect conversion in mine.

Fed up of changing bearings in my 4035-560 every 50 flights or so. It's usually the top bearing that wears out first from the side forces. Would a top bearing mount help them last longer?

All we need is taller pinions with the top machined down to 10mm dia just like the nitro pinion and simply use the nitro bearing block or a custom job to hold the top in place.

Hi Taipan, are you running tight mesh? This really makes it wear fast, i have the 4035 500KV on my logo 700 using the stock bearings and mod 1 gear, i have backlash on them, after 50 flights or so i pulled them out still like new (OIL every 10).

The top bearing will help for sure, a few did make there own (similar to mikado CB).

MA has this, a longer pinion with the top machined to 10mm for a bearing, but only in mod 1 gearing 10, 11, and 12 tooth pinions. I'm running it on mine.

Hi,

I would prefer a longer motor shaft and give support to the saft directly above the pinion by a second bering.

I did that before this lattest system. It's hard to fid really excellent bearings in the 5 or 6mm inside size, so then I had to make another 10 mil sleave to put above pinion to adapt a 10 mil inside by 19 mil outside bearing, plus an extra long shaft. It was A LOT of hassle and didn't work any better than this new system, which would work on pretty much any heli. The AuroraE is using it...

Because this system is a retro fit, each part has to be set up. Nothing here is "plug-N-play". If you try to do that, it won't work right. Also, a third 4 mil hole, opposite the other two in the collar, must be drilled and taped for a third set screw in order to adjust to center on the motor shaft. If this is not done the pinion WILL wobble. Let me know if you need help...

Yeah, but it's just a counter bearing set (i.e. motor shaft support only), which Mikado has had out for quite a while. That does not give frame support above the pinion, nor does it keep the pinion from pushing away from the main gear. This other system takes care of all three things, with less weight.

Band,

What do you mean? Is the bore of the MA pinion larger than 6mm?

Yeah, but it's just a counter bearing set (i.e. motor shaft support only)...That does not give frame support above the pinion, nor does it keep the pinion from pushing away from the main gear.

The actual motor mount would give "frame support" in this case. The top of the pinion would be indirectly supported by the frame via 3 screws into the motor mount. I believe this would definetly decrease the amount of pinion movement. Especially if you use a longer shaft as opposed to the adapter that comes with the KDE counter-bearing.

The counter bearing is better than nothing, but it is not as good as a double plate support where the upper support becomes another frame stiffener, because you are no longer relying on the motor mount to do all of the keeping the gears from separating. The frame stiffeners are of extreme importance in a heli that so much of the frame stiffening has been removed (motor, clutch, fan shroud). Not to mention the fact that the electric motors have so much instant torque that really puts a ratcheting stress on the frames. I have three on both of my 700's including the motor mounts.

And yes, the bore on the pinion is slightly larger than 6mm. The adapter is a slip fit on 6mm, but when you tighten the two set screws
the collar is pulled hard one way which slightly off sets the pinion.
