I have a couple of questions on my 1005's. I have a rear mounted Zimmerman muffler and it came apart in flight yesterday while I was tacking my head speed and adjusting my throttle curve. I just about got it to 1560rpm and the pipe that is welded into the can broke free completely and flew off. It made quit a racket and I brought it down a little too quick. I pretty much freaked out with the loud sound of it. I thought the motor was running lean and racing but I think it was just loud. Damage is not too bad. I broke a couple of links and the battery tray snapped in half. The collar that holds the main shaft up slipped down and the end of the shaft hit the top of the fan housing. Wouldn't you know the one part I'm missing in all the spares I have is the tray.I figure it will give me a chance to go through the whole ting thoroughly while the tray is on it's way.
Any one no a good source to get the pipe welded back on the muffler? I'm hoping it can be saved. I prefer the rear mounted over the bigger side mount. I think it's quieter and a cleaner look.
While this machine is down, I decided to set up a second 1005 that I have. I ran into a pretty good one with Spektrum receivers.I have an AR7000 in the first machine and decided to use an AR9000 in this one. I'm planning on a GV1 and I just installed a generator and figured I could use the extra channels. I bound the Rx as usual but it didn't take. I tried it again and nothing. I swapped another sat light Rx and did another bind, still nothing.I swapped to another AR9000 Rx and did another bind and still nothing. I went out in the garage and double checked the wiring and direction of the plugs on the first machine and all looked good. The order of servos was right and all the blacks are up. I double checked the 2nd machine I'm having trouble with and the order is correct and all black wires are up. Then I notice the diagram on the top of the rx for plug orientation and it looks like the plug is suppose to go the other way around. I switched all the plugs so the black wire is down and did another bind and all is good.A heads up for all using Spektrum Receivers. The AR7000's have the plugs so the black wire is up and the AR9000's have the black wire facing down. Lost an hour and a half messing around with this one.
I got it all set up and brought it out in the back yard to fire it up.Nothing doing! I couldn't get a bump out of it. I brought it in and got into the fuel system after verifying I was getting spark. I found it had gotten gummed up a little bit and the primer bulb has a crack in it. I could see the fuel in the line wasn't moving when I pushed the bulb. I'm going to replace the carb and get parts to go through it and rebuild this for a spare. Where's the best place to get a new carb and part? This motor and the first machine both have a 167A carb on them.Is there a better carb to get for these motors or is this model the standard for these older 23cc Zenoahs?
Sorry for such a long post. Thanks for any input and advice.
Peter

The Zenoah G231PUH that you buy now for a heli comes with either WT643 or 644 carb, the later having a choke built into the carb whereas the 643 utilises a choke in the stock Zenoah air filter. I don't know about the 167A but you should be o.k. using either of the above on an older 23 just depends whether you need a choke or not.

I have the 167A on my 1005. I bought a WT644 on ebay for $35 including shipping (turns out I only used a gasket out of it and kept the 167A)...

that rear mount muffler is stainless, and thin, a real bear to weld. I had a crack in one of mine, got it welded up but it looks like hell, dont leak though.

Fixing the look

Smooth out the weld "blobs" with a dremel took carefully and then wet sand the entire thing clean down to the bare metal.

Get yourself a 3 foot dowel and stick the tailpipe over it so you can hold the muffler in the air. I just spray paint mine like this with automotive high heat black paint (1200F) from autozone and it looks better than new when you're done. The high heat paint will last a while (don't try BBQ paint it doesn't work well), and if you flake any of it off over the seasons then just paint it again.

Pcnic -- Need a tray ??

Heck pretty sure I got a front old school tray if you need it -

Look like this ??

The bulbs are easy to get - go to a good small engine distributor

No problem if pcinc needs it give it to him. I've been living with mine cracked for some time now.

Raja,
It sounds like we both need the same tray. Did you locate one? I have one coming from Heli-Proz and one coming from Ron's. They should get here this coming Tuesday or Wednesday.
