I think I might build up a Protos next month. Few questions I have:

1. will a Jazz 80-6-18 work for ESC; will use Scorpion 880KV motor
2. does it accept 5mm root tail blades
3. can you run a 6S 3200mAh pack
4. can you run DS510s on cyclic and 3500g on tail

I only need one!

3. That size pack will work for sport flying but is too big for good 3D you would want a smaller size like 6s 2600mah.

4. I ran the 3500g for awhile but it felt very sketchy or heavy pitch change manuvers. I replaced with a JR 8900G and the tail is amazing now.

I did not realize you could run a full size servo. If I go with the 6S 2600mAh packs will it still balance out with a full size tail servo? Also I was thinking of going with a Spartan DS760 or a Mini G for gyro but not sure what most are running with great success.

Thanks

to answer your questions:
1. Yes the Jazz works flawlesly
2. I have to measure, I know the 72mm Radix and the 75 mm Fun Key tailblades fit for sure
3. I doubt a 6S 3200 would fit under the canopy and too heavy, so
either 6S 2600 or 5S up to 3600
4. I agree with Shawn, the full size are always far ahead on the tail,
BLS 251 = first choice if your gyro supports 760 ms pulse width.

The protos has alot of room on the battery tray for different battery placements. With a 6s 2600mah (hyperion vx cells are what I use currently) and the full size 8900G tail servo it is very easy to get a perfect CG and still have room to spare even with the canopy on. I actually can still get cg with this same setup on a 6s 2200mah battery.

As far as gyro choices I have not used a mini G but have read on the forums that they work well but can be finicky to setup. I have spartans on all of my machines and have always been very pleased with the performance and ease of setup.

As far as tail blades go the protos grips take a 4 mm root tail blade. The align blades and most all of the carbon fiber tail blades I have seen are 5mm root for this size machine. I tried some kbdd plastic tail blades that come with a 4mm root. Unfortunately the kbdd blades are a bit large for the protos machine and I believe they over load/work the tail system (The protos only has radial bearings in the tail, no thrust bearings.). That being said the ideal tail blades I believe are the MSH 3K tail blades. These tail blades are the same size and shape as the stock tail blades but much much stiffer providing ideal performance.

On tail
Spartan + BLS251 can not go wrong with this combo.
