My Posts This: Topic  Forum		How much vibration is to much when I am flying my spectra it seems like there is a lot of vibration more than my nitro but I don't know if this is normal It seem like it fly s fine. But recently I have been finding loose bolt here and there. I am worried about the head block it has been in two crashes but I am not sure how to make sure it is true.

A gas engine really should not vibration much more than a glow fuel engine. The only exception is that the gas engine has a flywheel and usually is larger in displacement.

However you can have some one like B H Hanson balance the gas engine so vibration is minimal.

what I use to gauge a vibration level is a Deans antenna mounted vertical with a 45 degree bend,also the fuel in the tank must be still, this can be done with a gas machine.

That's a great way to know what kind of vibration it is. Fuel foaming is mostly high frequency vibrations from the engine.

That's a good indication of low frequency vibrations from the rotor head/flybar.

Yup, blurred vertical is most likely the tail rotor setup out of balance. Blurred horizontal can be a combination of both the tail and the main.

One landing skid vibrating is a combination of main rotor head out of balance, bad main bearings and/or soft main frame.

You are better off not indicating on the head of a bolt. They don’t run true to the threads. Is there any reason why you cannot indicate on the shaft itself? Although mounting the shaft in the lathe true to start with is the most difficult task. Usually rolling the shaft down a glass plate gives the best indication if the shaft is bent. Once you know you have a true shaft then I would indicate the head block on the shaft to see if it is square.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		I thought so. Even still .002 doesn't sound like much but a .002 bend in the shaft will create a vibration. I would roll that shaft down a plate of glass so you have a comparison between a new shaft (assumed to be straight) and this one. You can detect a .002 whoopy easily rolling it on plate glass.

That might be your setup in the lathe. Suspend the shaft between two V blocks at each end and rotate it with your fingers to indicate concentricity. Make sure there are no dings on the shaft where the ends rests on the V blocks. You can check several points on the shaft this way and avoid any inaccuracies of holding the shaft true.
