Fits me to the T, man them was the good ol'days, This generation, of kids does not know what they are missing. Back then you could run thru the woods, and have BB gun wars, and now if that happened the parents would be thrown in jail and the kids sent to foster care.

No it's all about money, if someone see's a way to make the State, or Gov some money they will find a way to say your a bad parent.

This world want be liveable much longer.
This day in time, People are being programed buy TV, ect to how they should act, and think.

Dunno, did a lot of both of those back then...
I really think it was more of a function of WHERE you grew up. Now it's all so muddled together by electronics and the internet that it's just one huge mess. A teenager today without an Ipod or a phone for a few hours??? Forget about it. I remember being 15 and my dad buying the parts to tune up the rusty old Vista Cruiser, full of rust and all. So that we could get it running again. Why??? Cuz there was no way I was driving either one of their cars when I got my license. So, out the door we went, oil/filter, plugs, points and condenser to tune that up. I didn't complain, I LOVED it, especially getting one on one time w/ my dad and having him teach me something useful. Try that today!!

It was a Saturday afternoon around two O'clock in September, and I was working on a scratch built motorcycle " welded tube frame and all".

Coming down the street was a side boarded straight truck with canvas pulled over the top.

Out of the truck jumps' a renowned award winning show car builder / "1st in enamel" / "1st in Interior" - and reputable stock racer that I was familiar with --- my dad tooled his shop.

My Dad jumps out and places a check carbon in my hand and says :: $700.00 " You got 90 Day's" and with the look of steel " GOT IT " ???

They flip the tarp - remove the side boards and Rich pull's a handle on the side of the truck.

Off on the residential street pours a bunch of sheet steel, two transmissions, a PTO - in and out box, a block and a pair of manifolds, 5 rims w/rubber, two steel seats and a couple of wooden cases.

I can still remember the gut wrenching feeling of being tossed into a enormous amount of dept - unwilling and un prepared and broke !
Then that look in his eyes - as I'm holding that check carbon saying to me : 90Day's got It ?

Looking back "the best memory" was watching two guys slapping each other and howling like animals as they drove off!!!

By the time he got back I had the frame on stands, the tin sorted, and the blocks and cases rolled into the garage.

By January I was up by $3000.00 - booked solid - working 16's with it and sold it 4 years later for what I paid for it. Never looked back !

Yes I can see : I grew up in a one car family, one hole garage, one mom, one dad, one black and white TV.

That's a brief on my very 1st vehicle - and I had to pay for it, by being creative.

A very few around still - might see one in a car show but usually plastic - but not many because they came off the line in 1948 !

1948 Willy's CJ2a

Same tiny jeep you driving around in in the MASH rerun's and in the WW II films. Top speed maybe 50mph, but you could sure pull a stump with it.

Had positive all lock 4wd, a X2 lower granny gear, "Could walk beside it - the throttle pulled out of the dash " and a PTO shaft that exited the rear.

1st thing I did after a complete re- build was to fabricate a blade out of a old water tank and a lift out of a vacum pancake from a truck trailer. In those days, blades on the average pickup were pretty rare.

Well heck. When I was a kid up in Alaska, we had no TV. I remember sitting in front of the radio Saturday night and listening to Gunsmoke and Perry Mason.

I did not even know what a TV looked liked until I was 12 years old back in 1957 when our family moved down to the states from Alaska. That was black & white of course. Needles to say, we played outside ALL the time.

Same here, born in 73. We were right on the edge of the "new generation" when competition died. I think we were the first generation to experience "Zero Tolerance" policies in school. Once that happened, the grading scales changed, weighted grade averages became the norm, Schools started instilling that there is no right, no wrong, and that everything will be ok, so long as they stay away from guns.
