Ok.. I know there's a lot more needy folks out there than me.. but..

I am currently using my stock TX/RX that came with my BeltCP v2. From what I'm reading/seeing/hearing this setup is best replaced asap.

Being a little short on money (who am I kidding, short is an understatement - I just got laid off.. the last thing I should be doing is buying Heli stuff..) HOWEVER. Through some gifts from family members I have enough scraped together for a DX6i.. the only kicker is that it's has no Rx. (I'd rather have the DX7.. but can't quite justify the extra cost).

I figured with all the stuff being upgraded/changed/ditched someone has to have a good 6100, 6110 or somesuch sitting in a drawer somewhere they just haven't thought about selling yet, and would be willing to get rid of cheap? I'd even be willing to barter..

Any takers?

Thanks,

Michael

I'd rater fly with stock TX then DX6i, that thing is made out of potato chips, buttons felling out and scroll wheel stop working etc.

Get Airtronics, you can buy every single replacement part from their website, you can actually build one your self if you want.

I just replaced a few things in mine that were worn out, cost me $7 and no down time, other manufacturer want you to send it in.

Apparently you've never flown with a DX6i. I have. The DX6i was the TX I used in all my old TREX videos and some of the later HBK ones.

It's an entry-level TX, and in the hands of an entry-level pilot, it's like the china in the shop the infamous bull got into.

I'm sure very few of the experienced pilots who had used TX's for years previous had problems with it. Okay, the trim buttons are sketchy, and they've had more than one recall, but as far as it being worse than a TX included in an Esky RTF kit?

Really? If I had known that, I wouldn't have liked mine so much or been so reluctant to give it up.

Quit cryin' and start flyin'!

and the reasons being ?

Reason 1: No throttle hold
Reason 2: No curves
Reason 3: No Expo
Reason 4: No preset trims

Those are the ones I can think of right off the top..

Yes.. I understand that the Stock Tx is probably more durable, but I'm not exactly a bull in a china shop, I take care of my stuff.. I'd rather have a radio that's maybe not as durable, but more capable than a tank that can withstand my 3 yr old, but doesn't do what I want it to.

Now, I KNOW that airtronics has been around FOREVER(my first ever 2 channel radio for when I raced rc offroad was an airtronics) but does it compare to the Spektrum for capabilities and cust. svc, etc?

The DX6i seems to be a good compromise between quality, capability and price? But.. I'm always open to suggestions..

Thanks,

Michael

Dont do it save your money for a first and last radio if your radio is working leave it alone till if you must a good Spektrum/JR radio like the 9303. Especially for a DX6I thats not a real upgrade just a few more options that arent really needed on a beltCP thrown in there Throttle hold isnt necessary 450 autos are just controlled crashes No curves? It has idleup just not programmable No expo well I got it and aint used it yet Preset trims that can be done with a twist on the ball links anyway just fly it dont trim it to fly. I have flown spektrum a 5 a 6 and a 7 on planes though and I am yes a huge Futaba fan. Oh and I flew the JR9303 several times. And I am still a Futaba fan. My bladecppro Eflite radio broke probably the same cheap pots used in the DX6 that were recalled. I bought the Futaba 6EX great entry level radio with plenty of functions. Have flown a blade cp pro on it EP100 King2 Trex450 electric and my Nitro Raptor30. My 1/4 scale gasser extra 260 Parkzone T-28, a 60 size edge 540 and soon a hangar 9 P-47 thunderbolt. So yes a 6 channel can do a lot but is the little step up worth it? To me no!!

After all that I am still wanting more Why I cant really say maybe just to keep up with the Jonse's but it will most likely be a Futaba 10CG.

I wish I had the $220 from the Futaba 6EX to put on the 10CG thats why I said save your coin for your first and last radio.

the most important option in a radio for me is smooth non ratcheting throttle.

thats my 2cents and then some.

Thanks for the input.

My logic behind the DX6i was it was a "decent" radio, albeit a bit fragile (I played with one at the LHS the other day). I figured it would be all I would REALLY need since I'm not planning on going nitro.

I had planned on fixing the fragility issues with the DX6i by machining some aluminum or delrin levers for the trim tabs with my CNC machine to avoid that issue, and then possibly ordering or machining an aluminum thumbwheel for it later if necessary.

I found a really good deal on an almost new DX6i with a 6200 receiver, and ordered it.

Then, today I located a REALLY good deal on a DX7. It's the one that I wanted anyway.. so I'll be ordering it tomorrow..

I'll test them both and keep the one that I want, then sell the other to get my money out of the deal. Maybe I can even sell the stock Tx/Rx set to someone who wants a spare.

Thanks for the input.

If you must have a new radio the 7 isnt a bad choice the 6i I havent messed with yet cause most I know just bought the seven after owning the 5 or 6. That's probably why there are so many great deals on used 6's.

After having my hands finally on them speKtrum radios to make a conscientious decision and if Futaba went out of business, I can honestly say I would rather save my money for the JR 9303.

Good luck with your choice mgjones cause in the end it is your choice.
