I was at an rc race track and watched those guys pulling their nimh packs out of the cars after the race and hooking the pack to a battery dump , I think that's what they called it . The dump was a series of 12v light bulbs designed to drain everything out of the pack so a full charge can be obtained .

So that brings some things to mind .

Wouldn't dumping the power every run eat up the life of the pack ?

Is that good for a pack to be "fully" cycled upon each use ?

If you're not living on the edge you're just taking up space !

on nicad and nimh yes it is a good idea to discharge them down to almost nothing especially nicads. The reason is because they hold and retain a memory. Meaning that if you only use 75% of the pack and then re-charge it, eventually the battery memory of the pack will think that 75% is full capacity. You will also notice the rc car drivers will "peak" their pack right before a race. This gives it a little extra boost and it is better if the packs a warm when you start a race, this will add extra punch. A lot of the car guys are slowly converting over to lipo batteries.

Leave it to us heli guys to start a trend
