I am knee deep into the condor conversion. I have just installed the 11T pinion included in the kit and have found the gear mesh to be a little loose. The clutch bell and gear stack have bottomed out against the slots in the upper frame halves. The mesh is not that bad but this is my first gasser so I am not sure how to proceed.

Do I leave it as is or do I lengthen the slots so I can get a tighter gear mesh?

condor

I am trying to remember if the early condors had this issue, mine is an NX version and I had enough room to adjust it properly.

I see nothing wrong with opening up the slots to get a proper gear mesh.

let me know.

Doug

by the way is the metal bearing block with the slots limiting your travel ? ?

Yes, you want to make the mesh correct so what ever it takes. Is the main gear larger? I don’t know how large Century goes but you shouldn’t be running the stock 88 gear.

I am curious why not run the stock gear?

I have been running my condor with stock gearing and the 810 blades, I have it setup for 13,14,& 1500 rpm that puts the Hanson Pro between 10,400 and 13,000 where it seems to run best. and the performance is great.

I too have a BH G26. The bearing blocks are metal but it is the slots in the frame that are the limiting factor. I will lengthen them tonight and readjust.

What about the HD clutch? I have the stock non NX clutch and bell. Should I change them as well?

Your right, I didn't run the numbers. When he said he was meshing a 11 tooth gear to lower the reduction I was thinking it would be better to increase the main rather than decrease the pinion.

Maybe Lou is trying to get a lower headspeed than 1500.

What gears come standard on the Condor kit anyway?

condor

88/11 is standard gearing for the Condor.

As far as the HD clutch, I would probably use what you have unless you want to do some 3D stuff.

I do have the HD clutch and one piece fan if you want to make the change..

This will be strictly an AP rig. I just want to get the most out of the machine and use as much of what I have on hand. I am about to sit down now and work the frame slots a little. It is very close and should not take a MM or two to bring it in.

I think you might have to change the lower bearing block and fan hub to fit the S/HD clutch on the Predator but I'm not sure if that’s the case with the Condor, it's a far superior clutch and well worth changing

You may also want to take a good look at the tail drive gear, some have had some issues with it, does your tail boom xmission have two bolts or three?

Gear mesh is all done. Feels much better now. It appears that my XMSN has three bolts that hold it in the upper frame.

If you have any more trouble, you may want to PM Bill Meador (billme) for advice. He is THE guru here for the Condors.

How do you get down to 1200 headspeed with the long blades?
