Hi Guys,
I just getting into the Trex 700E arena and need a little help.

If I am flying hardcore 3-D smack down should I get the 4000mah or 5000mah Zippy packs?

4000mah is lighter but would my flight time be too short? I'm looking for at least 4-4.5 minutes of pure power.

I also have a Scorpion 400KV motor with a 19 tooth pinion. It seems a little weak. Any Ideas on the ultimate motor choice for big power?

Thanks in Advance,
Bub

I'd get the lighter ones. I run 4270s on mine and it does fine. If I use my Turnigy 5000s the thing weighs a ton and I have problems stripping out the main. I run a Scorpion 4035 560KV right now and even though it makes great power I am having issues with gear stripping with the heavier batts. I am running a 14 tooth pinion. I am probably going to a 400KV motor just for the sake of more tooth contact. Have you tried going to a higher tooth pinion? A friend has the 400KV in his and it has a ton of power but I think he's running a bigger pinion. He flies smack down 3D with his and it looks really strong. If you need more info PM me and I'll tell you who to contact. If I post it here I'll probably be accused of advertising and get kicked off of runryder

Here's a vid of a 700e with 400KV Scorpion and the 4270s. No this is not me flying(I wish) This was also with a smaller pinion than is on it now. It makes more power in it's current set up.

If you think its weak on power perhaps its the packs you are using? What are you using?

More often than not the packs are limiting it and bogging it. Get som 45C TP!

700e

I am running a Scorpion 4030-560kV with lots of power. I am using a 11.5:1 gear ratio using FAD 115T mod 1 main gear and Scorpion 10T mod 1 pinion. I have not stripped a single tooth with this set up. I am not a hard core 3D flyer, but, I have been doing hard punch outs, tic-tocs, aileron rolls, and mild stuff. I am using the Turnigy 5000mAh lipos. They are super heavy, so, 4270's would probably be lovely for your set up. I usually get 7:00 minutes of flying and only get my lipo cell voltage down to 3.78V. Still in the safe zone. I am not running governor on my CC 110HV and have my idle up 2 at 70% straight curve with about 2000 RPM hs. As you can see, there is a lot of head room for governor use. I am just worry about the whole firmware issue with Castle Creations.
Also, I a have a FBL head on my 700e. This probably helped some on the efficiency side and got my more flying time and less stress on the whole electric system.

I have not run a data log yet, but, this is how it looks temperature wise:

Motor temp: 145 deg F.
ESC temp: 110 deg F.
Lipo temp: 90 deg. F.
Voltage leftover per cell: 3.78V

I dont understand this, why dont you optimize youre gearing to suit the headspeed youre 'obviously' happy with. ?

Running 70% on TR Curves 'end point's'. isnt effiecient use of your HV110.

Yes, it is off on this picture. This was the first piture I took of the head. I have already corrected the phasing. Now, about the head speed and throttle curve, what is the correct setting for it? To tell you the truth, this is my first time dealing with an electric this size and I have never have to deal with correct gear ratios and so forth. Can you give me some advice? Thanks.

You need to be at around 85% to put the esc in the efficiency range. The main reasoon for gear stripping is shaft flex. You can add the 3rd mount screw and it helps. Running the non gov setup worked for me also. Remeber, a 4035 560 scorpion had about 6.5 hp

I have a CC 110HV. I'm currently running governor mode but a few guys say that I should run end points. What do you guys suggest?

Gov Stripped gears for me. Endpoints didnt, but when i finally got the motor locked in securely , it sheared the tailboom at IRCHA
So I think it was working good then. If its not stripping then leave gov on.

Running a 560 on mine, 2000HS. 11.7 mod 1 gearing Jeti Spin Gov mode.
Endless power. Flying TP 5000 45C. they come in cooler than the Zippy's. A touch heavier though. But NO bog no matter how hard I push.

Wow! 85% is hard to get with the 4035-560kV motor. I would need like a 13.5:1 ratio. Right? The best I could do with what is offer out there as fas as gears go is 11.7:1 ratio with a 117T main and 10T pinion. I don't know if my math is correct. I am using the governor now and I am still at 70% curve for 1950 RPM and 71% for 2050 RPM. I will try the 117T main gear and see how that does to my curve.

I want between 1950 and 2000 RPM. I believe that is where the 700 handles better.
