My Posts This: Topic  Forum		Just wanted to check if anyone else tried to autorotate in FPV-mode. I'm using T-Rex 600 and 450 for the FPV experiments. The first unforseen difficulty was orientation. Often I got lost and could neither see my self down there nor hear the chopper up in the sky. Now I encountered the problem with autorotation. Last flight the power went. Don't know if it was the lipo, esc or the motor itself. Tried autorotation but realized that its almoust impossible to know when to reverse. You don't know if your 5 or 15 feet up. You can't tell through the video goggles. Is there som trick to use or is it simply impossible? Guess that OSDs with GPS wouldn't give you a height that was accurate enough?

Check into the EagleTree Pro OSD or the RangeVideo OSD.
EagleTree does have a barometric altimeter, which I do not know how accurate or how fast it responds. Both are now featuring artificial horizons through the use of the FMA ir sensor and both have GPS.
A good feature of the GPS is the guide arrow to show you which way to turn to head back towards yourself.

If you can't find yourself on the ground your too far away for your experience level. It is too easy to loose orientation if you do not know the landmarks to use for reference.
You might try using Google Maps to get an aerial picture of your flying sight - IF they have a good image of your area. studying this will help you recognize landmarks for you to reference in flight.

Also, what are you wearing when you fly? Try not to wear any clothes that blend in with the ground. You need to contrast with the ground so your visible.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		I have glasses from rangevideo. The stereo cam look interesting. Yes I gone too far for my experience, loosing my equipement. Since I didnt get the OSD GPS to work I also always check google earth before flying. In fact I choose flying spot the night before through google earth and put the gps coordinate in my cell phone. Navigating to the site hase become part of the adventure. Some people tell me that I probably have a problem with the ESC. Aling ESC is considdered crap. But the CC HV 110 costs $219.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		I was up to see Zoltan at NG Hobby today; the 3d FPV is quite good, and could be the saving grace of FPV landings. Though I'd prefer having a screen vs goggles on a heli,( and you should think about having a spotter; seriously dude!!).

Also, he gave a demo on the Iphone GPS tracker circuit; this allows you to view your heli's position and route on your iPhone while you fly, and then save it's landing/crash site as a pin-drop on the google earth map.

It's freaking unreal. Definitely worth calling him.
