My Posts This: Topic Forum | Well, yesterday was a big day for my daughter (yes, I too am surprised they allowed me to procreate)... She had her 10th birthday and Daddy (that would be me for all those that arent following along) bought her a Nine Eagles Free Spirit Micro Coax from ClubHeli. I also got the SOLO canopy for me when I fly it . I had a mCX a year ago, but sold it as I quickly became bored with it. The Free Spirit seems to be souped up knock-off of the mCX. It is just as easy to fly, very similar design, strong and sturdy, but has much greater forward flight capabilities than the mCX. I'm not a big fan of using AA batteries to charge the Lipo battery, but I do have to give it to Nine Eagles for a creative design of building the charger directly into the transmitter... very nice and innovative design! I might get the wall charger for it... we'll see.
I was quite impressed with the transmitter... the display shows you battery power, trim settings, throttle speed, Mode, and Performance Level. The performance level has two settings... a "tame" setting that inhibits servo throw; and a "pro" setting that enables maximum servo throw for advanced handling characteristics. I don't mind having to have yet another transmitter, as this one is quite small and compact. The only thing I don't like is that the antenna doesn't rotate to allow it to fold flat against the top of the transmitter.
Parts seem to be very inexpensive, but I can't see needing to buy many as the heli is really quite strong and solid.
So what did my daughter think? Well, she loves it! It is a great way for father and daughter to have some good ol' fashion bonding time... something I am cherrishing before she becomes a teenager and wishes I didn't even exist
So what did I think? I didn't realize how much I missed not having a micro coax in my fleet. It is a blast to fly and unlike more sophisticated helis, you can really horse around and not worry. Quite frankly, at such a low price point, I can't see how anyone into micro helis wouldn't want one as part of their fleet. If you have a few extra bucks and want to put a little spark back into your heli hobby, the Free Spirit or SOLO (they are the same heli, just with different canopy covers) is a great way to go! |
