Radio - Futaba FASST > inconsistant piro rate? ON THE GY520!!!!? FOUND THE PROBLEM!

I have nine of these in various machines and no issue with pyro consistency...

But I did initially.

If you run the endpoints in the radio (which control pirouette speed)to high up, the gyro will loose pirouette consistency (it even says so in the instructions).

I turned mine way up, initially, on a Trex 450. After a certain point (quite a high rate of rotation) the pirouette rate became very ragged and inconsistent.

After I backed it down a bit, it became very, very consistent.

These are beautiful gyros, by the way.

Also, take the time to listen to Dr. Ben. He has helped me a very great deal.

I did have initially inconsistent pirouette rate problems with my GY520 on the SDX. I corrected it (with help/inputs from Dr. Ben) by re-trimming the tail in rate mode.

Also, is your ball position on the servo horn too close to the center? I have another 520 on my CopterX450 and its on the 2nd hole from the center.

Goodluck

well first i want to say sorry to Dr.Ben for being impaitent

and my current settings are:

1520 servo
reverse direction
3D mode (back from fai mode, didn't notice a difference except for a little lack in holding)
fast response

and the ball is on the inner hole (as seen in my pic.

i am going to try putting travel adj. to 100% and d/r 100% to see what happens.

I wonder if you have exceeded the mechanical capabilities of the tail?

It has been suggested that you decrease the rudder atv to actually slow the pirouette rate down.

So have I got this correct?

When you do slowish pirouettes as the model gets blown by the wind the gyro can add or remove rudder as required. As you increase the pirouette rate by giving more rudder on the tx you reach a point where there is no more rudder travel so the gyro is unable to now control the speed of rotation and this is seen as inconsistant speed of rotation?

Is it the job of the gyro to measure rotational speed and find where it is able to get the speed constant through 360 degrees and slow the pirouette rate down to get the speed constant for the whole time?

BTW, check your travel limits also (limit setting menu on the gyro). Your tail must be able to travel the full left and right rudder. My first set-ups I didn't set the limits and found that the servo doesn't reach one side full rudder.

im pretty sure im not exceeding the mecanical travel, but then again im having the problems durring full collective slow piro'ing passes.

but the thing is that the piro consistancy isn't even good through a piro-flip!

ill try to put the ball out a hole because i think its just not responding fast enough.

Maybe you need to work on your collective management before you blame the machine

helidevil,

Respectfully, something is wrong setup-wise or otherwise.

The pirouette rate is extremely consistent with these gyros.

FOUND IT! i moved out the ball on the horn a hole, and i now have a piro rate i can deal with! it was doing its job all along, the mecanics just werent responding fast enough!

so thanks RAK402 and everyone else who contributed.

Good for you, congrats. That's what I noticed on your pics, something's not right with that ball too near the center of the servo horn.

helidevil,

The 520 should hold the tail like it is in a vice!
