Has anyone used one of these for F3C? Fuse installation and which one? Also is the head good enough for F3C or would that need to be upgraded? Just wondering if I should keep mine and convert it to a FAI bird or sell it and try something else.

I'll leave it up for the discussion and the fun of it. But I traded it for a 90sg

Too late

The SSZ-IV head can indeed be made usable for F3C. Dr Ben and I spent quite a bit of time with it and after figuring out the correct (or at least near correct) flybar ratio and the installation of the soft SDX dampers, it does quite well. I know the standard Hirobos like the Evo, EX2, and Eagle 3 will fit nicely in the Blackshark and Staysee series fuselages but I don't know the vertical measurement of the D3 so cannot say for sure it will fit. I bet it would.

I don't think the D3 will go into a Staysee fuse, the tail boom is too low.

I tend to agree with Doug. The issue isn't so much the front end of the model as it is the tail boom height.

The other big issue for this model right now for FAI is the limited motor gearing option. The stock ratio really is too short for the engine to drone well in hover and to keep the engine RPM safe at 2K RPM upstairs.

7.9 to right around 8.0 seems to be ideal. There was a time when 7.75 could be used to good effect, but if the weather gets hot and the air thin, that taller ratio never really allows the engine to get up on a step and to recover from the loads applied with today's schedules.
