My Posts This: Topic Forum | I just got my Wally motor earlier this week. I plan to spend the weekend collecting data on my current setup which is a Spectra G with a TRM 231, standard fan and 720's. I have a 4200 Nimh battery and the jewel and I'm running a Solid G with a BLS251 on the tail, a 4131 on the throttle (hightech went south on me) and 8717's on the control surfaces. I do not fly 3D (as long as you don't count the last 15 seconds of flight prior to impact)
I can't seem to get a handle on the setup and tuning of gas motors. In fact, it seems that the more I try the worse I get. Back in the day I ran a G23 for about 2 years without any issues. I then moved up from the Schluter gasser to the 1005 and added a muffler, glass blades instead of wood and better servos. I would either tune them to get a smooth run which would result in an excessively lean run, scoring the cylinder walls or the muffler would come loose and scoring would occur. I then went to the TRM 231 and ran it for almost 2 years with a Bison muffler and had no problems. I wrecked and on the rebuild, started tweaking it and trying to get it to run better; 3 motors (1 was a 231 upgraded to a 26)later here I am.
I'll take some pics and short videos of the current setup and then other than replacing bearings, anything broken and the very sloppy front tailrotor drive coupler, I will replace the motor, fan and shroud and then take some more pics and video.
I welcome any and all comments and / or requests for information. If it is something I can measure, capture or find I will share.
I will follow the instructions for motor break in from the manufacturer, but other than that I am all for making it better.
I live in Las Vegas so if anyone is passing through I would be willing to try and meet up with you so you can see it and check it out.
