The Radikal flew today and very nicly, I put regular gasoline mixed with 3 oz.Amzol 100-1 oil in the tank.

The pre settings were 30% throttle at mid stick,5 degrees pitch with neg 2 and 14 degrees full stick, carb settings 1 3/8 low 1 1/2 high side.

The engine started very quickly, ran approx 3/4 tank prior to first hover, other than a few clicks on the trim and some blade tracking it flew very nice.

I checked all fasteners etc. for security then put 3 20 min. flights on this afternoon.

I stated in another thread that this machine had a 13 tooth pinion, thats wrong it is 14 with a 84 tooth main, I was running a 1700 headspeed with the Rotortech 620 blades, if my math is correct that puts the engine at 10,200, the fuel in the tank is very quiet,I see just a bit of vibration on the tail, however once the engine gets some time on it I thik that will go away.

This helicopter weight is right at 10 pounds with fuel, so I think it will do quite well.

Can you say if this heli feels underpowered or overweight?
How does it feel compared to a bigger gasser like the Predator?

3 years is enough time wasted. Taking a break for a while.

The highest rpm I ran the Pre production model was 13860 on the engine...2160 on the head...We made a pinion change to get the rotor rpms down...

That is what Bill said in another thread about this heli. So with a 14T pinion and 84T main, you are looking at a 6:1 gearing ratio. That means to get 2000rpm at the head, which is the RPM I typically run on my helis, you'd be spinning the engine at 12,000RPM. Seems like this will work out just fine. If you go to the 13,860 he was running it at, then you would be 2310rpm at the head. I think that would move this heli around with authority :P.

I will post the typical curves later, we plan on flying several of these at the Mulberry event in november, this one with a stock engine, Billme with a Hanson motor, and another with maybe something else, I have made arrangements for some vidio.

I am not a 3D guy, I fly scale and sport, my daily flyer has been the Condor, 15 pounds and will go like hell, however the Radical is very nimble with lots of power, I did a couple of very conservitive climbouts this afternoon, I dont think you are going to lack for power.
I look at another aspect, if you put 660 blades on a 10 pound helicopter it should autorotate very nice and do well in a scale application.

Is Joe coming?

If so and if he doesn't mind maybe I can stop by and drop by birds off and then fly down to Florida so I'm not beat from the long drive and can fly better that way

Air cleaner

if that motor is using a walbro carb,i expect that the aftermarket types that fit the 231 and 260 will also fit the little engine.Hanson sells them.

Team- unbiased opinion,no experts here just trying to help thats all.K.I.S.S principle upheld here

starter

Hello Helicenter and all,,,,did you use the pull starter or the shaft start on this heli. You did state it started easy, so if shaft start will an average starter turn over the engine. Also did you get the heli with the Lt or HD head. I am going to order one and am looking for best options. I will fly more aggressive.

Fine mesh screens are available for the velocity stack. I don't have a link, but I've seen them.

Radikal

here are some answers to previous questions.

Pitch curve 14 33 52 67 76 52 percent represents 5 degrees

Throttle 0 14 30 48 70 30 percent represents 1/3 throttle

The power consumption for the e ignition system seems to be about 1/3 that of the flight system, remember these flight times were hovering casual sport flying with moderate climbouts.
