lost my job awhile back due to plant relocating out of state...Everything was getting back to good alittle at a time..Now my wife comes home and her employer shut its doors..I have no idea what i am going to do..Its going to be a bad Christmas...

I got some 'hope' last night

I've been laid off 5 months and we're facing a little house on the prairie Christmas too.

Stay cool, and look at it like this, it's a time to strengthen your marriage, work on things together. Cut your costs right away (yes, turn off cable!).

Last night I went to a job networking group at a big local church (FBCW, woodstock, ga) and it was great, I CAN'T BELIEVE I DIDN'T GO TO ONE BEFORE.

This is a good time for you, it really is. Time to reinvent yourself, find work you enjoy. You almost always end up in a BETTER situation than before.

And take a family trip right now, go have fun and get away.

We are just trying to keep our house and stay afloat best we can.

The company didnt offer any relocations....They wanted to get rid of the union,,,and didnt want to bring any former union emplyees with them...Thanks for the prayers guys...

the union business is tricky. there is a union where i am at. united aerospace workers. i'm in management but i can tell you it is hard to compete on a global scale with the costs incurred by having a union.

very hard to be cost competetive with some of the union rules that exist. i am constantly amazed at some of the crap these guys come up with. it is very exspensive to have a union in a place of business these days. they will all go the way of the dinasour at some point.

the math doesn't work anymore.

the union that was at our shop was awful,,,they slowed production down so much and the management was afraid to say anything in fear of a union slow down...I knew at long ago it would shut as down and i was right...

I've watched bodies hit the floor all around me for the past two years at my "former" employer of 10 years and it finally caught up to me 6 weeks ago. Bad feeling no doubt, but we are keeping up with the house payment so far. Prayers that you keep it shiny side up. It can be done.

6 months for me with nothing. For a year before that I worked with one of my clients as a Const. Super. for less that 50 cents on the dollar. My a** still aches from what he was paying me.
As far as my own business, it's been dead for 3 years now.
I can't believe anybody's moving their biz to Michigan. My family is still there, I'd like to move back but they tell me don't even bother it's so bad. My sis and her whole department all got canned last week. She'd been there for 20 years in a white collar position. Hired all new people. Canned everybody to save a few bucks and hour. MEIJER's - classy operation they are.
