New Battery Technology?

I'm very curious as to how many of the people voicing their opinions have actually had the opportunity to sample batteries made with the new technology (TP 45C, or Hyperion G3)?

Currently, I'm flying a Knight 600E 8S configuration. I bought the heli in the classified section from a trustworthy member who also included two 4S TP 3850 Extreme V-2s. I have since added two pairs of the Hyperion G3 CX 4000mah packs. The difference is night and day, even in light of the 25C ratings of both packs.

I've flown one of the new packs for well over a hundred flights, internal resistance is still less than 30 mOhms (when charged at room temperature), and it's barely warmer than ambient temperature at the conclusion of a flight. The V-2s get VERY warm (as in hot).

The new packs are consistent in holding rotor speed through the length of a flight, the V-2s are not. I am still not able to discern a degradation of performance in the packs after ten weeks of flying every chance I can. I fly, as well as work at home, so I fly a LOT when the weather allows!

I think there is some major new capability being offered with this newer generation, and folks will realize this once they've actually experienced it. Not even close from what I've seen.

You must be referring to Blade Sphincter. I agree. I've flown several Flight Power lipos in 3, 5, 6, and 10s configurations, Outrage in 6 and 10s, Zippy's in 6s, and now have TP G4's and Hyperion G3's in 3s. I can say with certainty that I am having a different experience with these than I had with my Outrage lipos. I had to send 3 of my Outrage lipos back for replacement but, I do have to say that I have a couple 10s Outrage XP25 4200's that are still performing well after 110+ cycles.

New chemistry, new this, new that

New Gamble

No Thanks

I'll stay with Hobby City for my lipo's

A quote of assumption there. Time will tell as they say and I think yourself and many others will then see that it is in fact something new, that's all for now.

Blade Master ....I read your threads here and in the nitro 5-7 years, you are very negative with no backup or data, and knocking something before you have tried it is well,,,kinda silly sir. As I have said we have had alot of "hype" for a few years with a few brands, that sir is undeniable and will agree, but to think something is not going to progress which it "has" is not very open minded. Again there are several threads on RCG by non affiliated testors proving cycles and performance, maybe time to think outside of the box a little bit? What experience do you have with the new TP45s or Hyperions? I'd like to know if any that has developed your attitude and negativity if you do not mind to share, please share your vast knowledge on the subject.

let me explain my negativity

I can buy 3 for your 1
if I lose 2 I still have 1 to fly
even with warranty and 50% replacement I would still be ahead
while your waiting for your single battery to be replaced, you could have bought 2 of my batteries

if you bought 1 BN and crashed and you needed a replacement
you will have bought 5 of my HC batteries in the end

is the newer BN battery still worth it ?

IMO not in my eyes, I don't 3D , and I don't need a C rating over 25
I can still charge at 2C if I wish

I think it's all good. This is, after all, a hobby and all of us have different wants, needs, tastes, skill levels, and budgets.

Sharing our experiences so that others realize the options available is the whole point IMHO.

Some may want the level of performance, and increased longevity offered by the new generation of batteries, some may feel the cost is prohibitive, particularly if crash damage is a frequent occurrence.

I picked up a few of the new 35c Hyperions from another RR member for my Logo. Time will tell if they live up to the hype but if they do I will keep my Logo. If not I'll stick with nitro. Realize that even at $230 for the Hyperion 35c 6s 5000 pack that is almost a 33% drop from what that pack would have cost a year ago. I know what tha actual dealer cost on these packs is so there is still alot of profit available even at that price. Hobby City's packs may not be using the new cell chemistry but we should all be happy they have had a dramatic effect on new lipo prices.

I know have 2 of the HC 25'c and 2 of the 35c Hyperions so I will be keeping an eye on cycle life and resistance between the 2.

The divergent range of opinions is useful. The sarcasm is not. In fact it's rather childish. Say what you will but let's try to be civil.
