on my second flight at the weekend i started to get a lack of response from the tail, iwas having to give more and more right stick so i landed quick, i found that the servo was over in the left position, despite me having centered the stick. i didnt fly again i brought the heli home to check out.
only problem is i cant seem to find a fault the sevo now centres ok the gyro appears to respond ok and i cant find any stiffness in the linkage
has anyone had a similar problem,do you think gyro problem or servo or something else?, thanks ,colin

how hot was the tail servo? is there resistance in the control mechanism? If that tail servo got hot it'd explain this, then you need to figure out why. Replacing this equipment with better gyro/tail servo won't fix it if there is a setup problem. Also, how far out is the ball joint on the servo arm?

What servo combo u using? Make sure all ur trims are at neutral when setting it up. I would elaborate more or more suggestions would post if we knew the gyro combo. Also might not have initialize properly at the field.

tail response

thanks for your reply damper, i have had a very basic set up for the last 18 months but have had no problems, my gyro is the futaba g 190 and a standard s 148 servo , i have put another post in as i am thinking of upgrading now my flying is progressing, i also checked the linkage but it doesnt appear to be stiff, just would like to know what may have caused my problem.

Ok the 190 is a rate gyro meaning you make the constant corrections to the tail vs head holding. The 148 servo was a good servo during it's time but being an analog servo it is probably wore out along without bearing a dual ball bearing support servo. There is a kit called EMS Dual Bearing support for that servo. The linkage that came originally with the raptor 30 is still used today and it is stiff enough. Might just need to replace that tail servo for a cheap and easy fix.

Upgrading the gyro combo is a good idea. Many gyro combos out there but I would upgrade to futuba401 combo but that is just me.
It is reliable durable, cheap, and easy to set up with radio corrections and the dials on the gyro.
