Neat little toy for knowing where you are and plotting your whole flight route. Built in battery so you only need to velcro it to the side of your heli.

Not bad for $50

So you just basically turn it on and hang it around your neck or in a device of choice, then plug it in to your computer and empty it?

Compatible with all software maps such as Google etc?

Apparently it's that simple. I just found a huge thread over at RCG and it supposedly works like a charm. May just get one to hang around my wife's neck...

Been using one of these for a while with good results.

No problem with power - just plug it into a servo port. Software is pretty good too.

gps logger test

Thanks to supersixtwo for the GPS gift. I have installed the software and had several successful tracks in the car. just a note. You must download the new software from the website and install it, not the one on the disk. Also make sure to put your com port speed at 4800 else it wont see the logger. other than that it works great.

It works well

Done a few car tracks with it
Handy you can open it in Google Earth from the program or save to KMZ with one click.
Just need to select the track listed in Google Earth and change the altitude tab from "Clamp to Ground" to "Absolute" to see the elevation in Google Earth as well as path.

Cut a spot in the foamie for it to try a flight today if I get time.
Got mine logging every second all the time its on.

GF

That ebay one is the GT-730F(L)

$39.95 here
http://www.buygpsnow.com/Canmore-GT...port__1038.aspx

The one I got was GT-730FL-S

$49.95
http://www.buygpsnow.com/Canmore_GT...ata_Logger.aspx

See the diff

The cheaper F(L) needs to be plugged into power to USB
Ok for flying if you hook up power to it

The FL-S at $49.95 has an internal battery that runs it so no external or USB power is needed to run it.
It recharges from the USB when plugged in.
So it can be used anywhere.
Worth the extra $10

Got a quick fly in yesterday to try it out.

Opened KMZ in Google Earth with absolute selected on Altitide
170 ft Alt, its the empty lots near my factory and v close to local airport so had to keep it low.

There is a bit of a bug in Google Earth

When you select Absolute for altitude it is ok, but if you try to move the slider to raise the floor value the blue path vanishes.
With it normally clamped to the ground if you move the slider the entire tracks rasies off the ground to that value.

But on Absolute it raise as and lowers but then the line vanishes and you can t see it.
If I raised it one metre from the floor you could see the full length of the landing.
Ive played with it for a while and no joy there
So the minimum values of altitude which are only accurate to a meter go under ground at some points.

So the landing shows the varation in height as it nears the ground, the actually landing point was a fair bit further on once it glided a foot off the ground and made contact.

I also suspect (because the floor is negative values at some points) that the sensor is being messed with by the air flow through the inside of the canopy and changing the sensor value.
So I need to mount it so there is no positive pressure in the canopy and it may solve that.
I know there is because when flown faster the canopy has popped up a bvit on its latch and there are vents at the front each side of the motor that let air force in there under the canopy.
Since altitude I am assuming is a barometric sensor then that would mess with it.

Failing that Ill try to edit to file to raise the minimum floor of altitude to all + values before converting to KMZ.
