hi

my wren/pred is running sweet

I do all my pre-flight checks, give it a clean etc.
Will keep an eye on the total running time, ready for wren to give it a service,

but what else do I need to check;

How often do you guys strip the head and tail gear box for inspection,
Is it best to leave the fuel tank fully fueld or empty when not in use?
If you don't run it for extended periods of time for whatever reason (holidays/bad weather) any thing you should do, like give it a quick start (like you might do to your motorbike over the winter!)
Do you strip the tank and inspect the clunk line,

etc, etc

could someone be kind enough to answer these questions and give a brief list of anything to check and how often (in particular to turbines really)..

thanks

I don't have a Wren so I'm not sure about any specifics to them. But I can answer some of your general questions. I empty my fuel tank when I'm done flying for the day. I do that mostly to help reduce weight of the model and to keep the least amount of fuel in my shop where I store the machines. I have gone many months between starts in the past. I try to minimize that, of course! But seriously, even after five or six months and having done nothing else to the engine while it was idle the thing would start up fine on the first attempt. Starting it every now and then to keep things loose can't hurt, though. The one thing I do think needs somewhat regular inspection are the fuel lines themselves. Even Tygon starts to deteriorate after a few years of use. I have changed out my fuel tubing out once now and while it was probably fine, it did feel more brittle compared to new. BVM Jets has a nice page with some fuel system tips and advice:

http://www.bvmjets.com/Pages/fuel_3_02.htm

Lot's of interesting info there, actually, even though its geared to the fixed wing guys.

I think WREN advises never to let the fuel pump dry out.

thanks for that nick,
curious though, why would you want to reduce weight of model after a flight?
Maybe to stop the skids sagging?

I should have said at the end of a days flying, not after each flight. And I do that so I can lift it into my vehicle without hurting myself.

And just a note regarding fuel filters: I started using Festo filters a while ago and they are the best thing out there for sure. Sealed, leak proof and clear so you can see the condition of the filter element at a glance. And cheap, too. A great combo.
