Hi mate. I can tell you what it was as I had the very same thing happen to me. I had just finished my flight with my 600 and was just about to land. less than 2 foot from floor I did a couple of piroets then hit throttle hold. Can you believe it but it kept piroeting in perfect stability..... then the slight wind must of got hold of it and it started to climb very slowly and piroeting, before I knew what happened it was out of reach. To keep the post short it basically flew about two miles, up and down, left to right but always in perfect stability and piroeting. I can honestly say it was the worst experience I had ever had. I felt sick as it was flying over a very busy motorway.

My mates kept an eye on it and luckily it hit the ground in a farmers field at the side of the motorway. We jumped in the cars ond off we went to find it. It took us two hrs of searchinig then my eagle eyed mate came walking up the farmers field with my 600 in his hand. I could of £%$&"*& him.

This is the best bit.

Can you believe it all I broke was one landing skid. How lucky was I. My theory is it ran out of fuel and autoed very gracefully to the ground.

OK so what happened. We removed the canopy and to my horror the battery connector had broke loose. Before you all comment on pre flight checks and all that I did them but I must say I pay a lot more attention these days...

Just thought I would share that with you. I can laugh about it know but very scary at the time

Phil

Wow, I'm glad your incident turned out so good.
But, mine was idling and went to full thro., full coll. and rudder.
If the batt came loose, you'd think it would do nothing

If the moon and stars all align in the right place a heli can fly by itself. I've seen it happen. A friend of mine was working on one without the canopy and all of a sudden the battery fell out. The heli hovered for a few seconds, then began to go forward while climbing and make one of the most beautiful banking turns to the left that I have ever seen. Almost scale like. Fortunately for him, as it was climbing it hit a row of trees about 100ft up that border the field. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't been there, but it happened.

I had the same happened to me a year ago with a .15 nitro.
I was learning hover and ff at that time. Started the engine, hovering it at around 4 feet. had a few click on the trim and it was hovering square at around 5feet. Then I lost control of it. It just drifted very slowly side way to the trees without lossing height. I think it would hit the trees, but when it was about 3 feet from the trees, it was caught by the light breeze and climbing up very slowly and drifting to the hills. With a full tank, it drift slowly up and into the hills for almost a km . Blocked by the trees, finally i lost sight of it and never see it again.

That really sucks. I'm sorry it had to happen to you too. With this particular thing, I wish I was the only one.
