I was wondering if anyone has converted or think it would fit,or would it be too hard to do ,is to convert a nitro engine in a hirbo shuttle Z to a gas engine. here is the engine that I think would fit.
http://www.rcmarket.org/zenoah-g231-puh-heli-pr-92.html
I think that it cost about $400.00 US dollars.
Any one have any idea's or what would be the most critical part of a change over.I know ALL of it, ha ha ha .Fitting the main shaft I guess.I have access to a cnc.
Tks

A Shuttle Z would be way to small for that size of engine .

At the end of the day , it gets dark .

Shuttle Z is a 30 sized, right?

Here are the problems with your idea:

#1. That engine will be really big and heavy. You'll need a .90 sized airframe.

#2. Converting any nitro to gas, you'll need a totally different gear ratio because that engine maxes out at most 12,000rpm. Nitros spin up a lot higher than that.

#3. That engine will make a lot of vibrations. Most gassers have a "modified" G231 or G260. This means that the piston and flywheel have been modified to make less vibrations.

If you want to fly gas, it's probably best to sell your nitro and buy a Miniature Aircraft Spectra-G or a Century Predator. There is also the Bergen Intrepid.

Align is working on a Trex 700 gasser, but it is not available now.

I bought my first gas machine earlier this year. I love it. Super cheap to fly and never any issues. It is a Spectra-G. I have pictures in my gallery if you would like to see it.

It's a complex, costly, glow powered anti-gravity machine!

If Align gets the bugs worked out and puts it on the market I will consider getting one.
Very cheap to fly and I'm sure it will be priced nice to.

I was thinking on it too, but how is it power wise?
Does it have enough power to do tic tocs and other 3D moves?

Chooper_Crazy what would you say since you have one?

Looking at the Align video I would put that thing in a blade stop with a 4 point tic toc, it seems that it has not enough power.
Would be nice to have 20 minutes flights using cheap fuel....too good to be true

The Align 700G will probably have more than enough power to do 3D moves like tic-tocs, but just not real fast like you can with an electric or nitro. The gas motors have much more torque than a nitro, so you're not going to get a blade stop but the weight of the heliocopter will give it lots more inertia such that it takes longer for the tic-toc to change direction. Think of 3D in slow motion. But since you can fly for 15-20 minutes, doing the moves slower is OK.

Thanks jrockstuart, but I guess it's not for me.
I like very fast and twitchy movements (that's why I use negative expos)

But still the 15-20 minute flying time is bugging me, maybe I will get one to use as a calm day heli...the ZEN heli!!

Or maybe you'll want one for a windy day when all of the lighter helicopters are too buffeted by the wind to be much fun?
