This is my first attempt at scale so i thought i'd begin a thread to ask you guys questions as i go. Tonight i'm going to smooth my seams out with some filler and get the horiz. stabs, tail fin, and exhaust on the fuselage. i'm looking for a good layout of panel lines so i can get those on and do some rivet work. Any suggestions? I'm as excited as i can be and can't wait to get started. Well it's off to the shop i go. Here's a link to the Heli i'm copying. I went with this one because one of them touched down locally and my 2 year old son got to crawl all over it and i got some nice photos.

Air Evac ...... They showed up at our annual fun fly this year . We have a guy that flies with us that copied the bell long ranger that air evac uses . Just make sure of some things that make a big difference when building scale (atleast in my world they're a big deal) like the tail driving on the correct side . Some Long ranger fuses come driving the tail on the right side instead of the left (a big WRONG if driving from the left side .

Keep us posted on your build .

will do. i'm going to post a detailed build because when i was searching for this fuselage i couldn't find much info. i seem to remember a guy that built skids for the rangers on rr a while ago but can't find him doing a search. anyone know who might build me some skids? i smoothed up the seams and got the exhaust and hor. stabilizers mounted tonight. i'll post some pics in a few minutes. i'm going to put a raptor 50 v2 in this heli. i will be mounting a 60 size engine in her and i will stretch the tail. i haven't decided on a head yet but i would like to go flybarless (without a v bar or the likes) and run a lower headspeed. i'm really open to advice at this point so you guys should chime in if you have any doubts about my plans. the only constant in life is change so let me have it.

a little test fitting for the raptor. i'd like to use magnets to attach the front instead of screws. is this an acceptable method? i put the rappy skids on for now but i'm looking for some nice scale landing skids. you're right krashtagain, i'll have to modify the tail to be on the correct side. that's gonna take some work. anyone done this that can post some pics of the process?

never really done any fiberglassing. i guess i have no choice now. i don't see going to all the trouble building it and leaveing the tail on the wrong side.

stretching a Raptors to run 680mm main blades and 95mm tail blades.

Aluminum JR Ergo 60 boom (cut 1.95" from the end)
part no. 983011
$17

You will also want to run Raptor 30 main/pinion gear which is 86 tooth and 9 tooth. This puts the 50 engine running at peak RPM but keeps the mains where they need to be.

PV0367 Pinion Gear R30 v2
$8

AK0031 Main Gear Raptor 30 v1 or v2
$12

All of those above are available from www.Heliproz.com

Then you need to run a longer belt. I get those from www.sdp-si.com

368 tooth XL series belt
part no. A 6R 3-368025
$10

hope this helps

Wow, atv, you got busy researching after i left today. Sorry we bashed your hopes of fitting the gasser in one of these fuselages. You just need to scratch build one. You need a few more projects anyways. awesome info. i'll get some stuff ordered. i'm drawing my rivets now and i'm afraid i'm gonna see dots in my sleep.

will do. i got all the parts that my good friend atvracer mentioned. he and i were talking over my options with this bird today and our conclusion was to build it as a 50 as far as engine and mechanics. i'll run 680mm blades and i'm shopping for a flybarless head. i won't be using a vbar or the likes. i'm probably going to go with an OS. 50hyper, gy401 9253 combo. like he mentioned i'll be stretching the tail and running a different main and pinion to get max effeciency but other than that it'll be a stock raptor 50v2. i'm going to add a deck board to the bottom in order to raise the mechanics to their proper height. i'll post pics of everything as i go but my schedule never allows me enough shop time.

i'm gonna see how small i can get the rivets when i get my kit. i've seen some that end up looking totally unreal because they're to large.
