Thunder Tiger Raptors 30-90 - Imperio > RAPTOR 50 SE Owners- How much Pitch?

I am still beating and banging on several of the "old" style V2 Raptor Titans with OS 50 Hyper, MP5, JR servos on 8volts, w/o the Scott Bell conversion I can obtain 11 degrees (+/-). With it I can gain more, but let's just focus on factory kits.

Now for you guys that have your hands on the new Raptor SE's running the same and/or similar gear as I am currently flying-(OS 55 or New YS) non inclusive since I haven't stepped up yet to the new engines yet!

Are you able to use all of the 15 degrees of pitch with proper collective management for some advanced 3D type flying?
Or do you find yourself only using something less like 13/14 degrees?

I can hold my own, but I am not "PRO" 3D pilot, I am considering a upgrade and like all the upgraded features of the new SE,

all except the fact that I have to split the cases to still change the bearings, bearing blocks would've been nice to have, versus disecting into the cases...

Other than that, My fleet currently is pure Raptor, Just want to know how you like all the pitch offered!

Thanks buddy,
Let's go back to the fact that I am NOT A PRO and I've seen all the videos of Colin, White Chocolate (Will F.), Dino etc but I want to hear from the pilots that are not of that PRO caliber.....

Oh, people like you and me....Just Beating and Banging the 3D out!

15 degrees of pitch? I figure it would put a OS 50 on it's knee's.

Even the Align 600 only throws what 13 degrees?

I have personally seen Bert Kammerer "thrash" out 3D on the 600LE by Align with the NEW OS 55, it's sick...
(and he was using less pitch than the Raptor SE throws)...

Makes you wonder? doesn't it....

The venerable old OS50 cannot pull 15° with any 600mm CF blades. Bog city! Even the OS55 will bog at 15°. It would be better to use the high pitch range of the new head to max cyclic at say 10° and use ±13° for collective. You will need a radio with cyclic ring or equivalent to keep from binding in the corners. You can still expect to occasionally bog the head if you truly stick bang.

This is from personal experience today with Raptor 50 Titan SE, 8.7 ratio Delrin gears, low humidity, 64°F, OS55HZ with Cline pump modification and Hatori SAB55 pipe. Your mileage may vary.

Also, if you want to push the Rappy harder try the NovaRossi Rex 57 engine with the H5 pipe. It makes considerably more power than the OS55, even with the mods. Only warning, HS has to be at or above 2150 to stay on the pipe. The Rex has a turbo crank that is tuned for high RPM (18,500 is max torque on the Rex).

Bottomline, if you want to have serious fun with the new Raptor you really need one of the new larger engines to go with it.

rexxigpilot-
Okay, thanks, now where getting somewhere...
Don't know much of the Novarossi Engines but point well made that the old dog OS 50 just can't throw down 15 degrees pitch. I can collective manage and stay out of the corners (so far).

So to go SE you gotta go "Big 50 Block" is my understanding...
(this coincides with all the field info that I have heard about)

Okay-- Now anyone else out there got some input on the SE?

How much pitch are you guys throwing and what engine's are you throwing this 15 degrees with????

I like +/-12 to +/-13 myself. 15 degrees is right at the blade stall angle and is very easy to bog down. 12 or 13 degrees is much easier to fly because you don’t have to worry about stall all the time.

Let's go back to the fact that I am NOT A PRO

Regardless to if you use 15 degrees during powered flight it still makes a heaping difference during autos for hang time with 600mm blades.

I set the powered collective for the best vertical climb with the engine I have. The Redline engine takes it well using 600mm blades and I'd guess the other newer 55/57s would too. The shorter 600mm blades are more common and I prefer the feel.

PS I'm just a hack flyer.

So imagine what he could potentially do with a more powerful engine and the Raptor SE extract it.---- Swine flu maybe?

Well I'm certainly no pro either so I will make a quick comment. First off the bearing issue. Just dremel the lip were the bearing goes and you will be fine. Loosen screws and bearing drops out. Now onto the 15 degrees. To be honest you really don't need the 15 degrees. I rarely ever hit the 15. The reason some of the top pilots run soo much pitch is to make the pop. The hit it hard and then get off it real quick. When you see them do long rainbows they definitely aren't pulling 15 degrees there. You can get away with 12 degrees and still do awesome 3d. Its really not about the pitch either, its more on how you manage it no matter how much pitch you running.

Hope this helps a little!

My recommendation:

Beginning 3D +/-10 (You can bang the sticks hard without a lot of bog)
Intermediate 3D +/-12
Advanced 3D +/-13 or more depending on personal preference.

Watch the sticks-granted it's a 90 but it also runs similar pitch. Not to dispute but I think it also boils down to personal taste, engine or even ability. I rarely go full pitch but it's there if I need it.

Now this is what I love about RunRyder....
My thought process for asking this question was to find out how much pitch that current SE owners are using.

Collective management is something I constantly practice each time the skids leave the ground, I started on a Raptor 30, then 50, then 60 w/ OS70. However from every PRO I ever met or decent 3D guy all the comments where the same;
"Loose the stick banging, Learn smooth collective management".

Also it is clear that the new series of larger displacement 50 engines on the market, It is a valuable upgrade to use the pitch that is on tap in the new SE Raptor.

15 degrees... Looking forward to it!

Thanks to all that responded-

(Will F. see you at the Orlando Blow out event)

My Se Titan is using +15 -15 , you can use it but you can not stay there long , the motor will bog , I love the pop it gives with 15 degrees.

Oh what a feeling flying 3D can be

Im using the TT53 with the OS Carb on one and the other Im using the Stock TT53 with orignal carb . I have not run a stock TT50 in a while but that is a good motor though in a version 1 or 2 Rappy 50.
