I bought Phoenix Sim several years ago and I remember one of the selling features was that I get upgrades? Am I too far behind to upgrade to the current version?

go to the website and download 1.05j then proceed with 2.0 then later versions.
Once you get to 2.5 it will have an auto updater that will prompt you to do the download through Phoenix

If you bling it, they will come :D

Thanks. I found it. Should I stop at 2.0? I understand out of the box that some people dont think 2.5 flight dynamics are as accurate.

You can also shoot an email to to Phoenix and ask for the URL to get a 2.0 CD, I can't remember where to find the link. If I remember right It was about 6 bucks US. I didn't get on because the shipping was so high.

If the wings are traveling faster than the fuselage, it's probably a helicopter.

personally I like the 2.5 version much better.
2.0 was more plug and play, but once you tweek the models a bit 2.5 is better IMO.
All the models are setup too slow.
Just edit the model til it feels like yours or til your happy with how it feels.

If you bling it, they will come :D

gorn,

What exactly did you tweak on the models to get them right?

Jeff

To hover is divine, the alternative is rather PLANE.

Collective response and cyclic tuning.
Usually I leave them at 12 or 12deg for collective.
Always bump the piro rate, prefer a much faster tail.

Before I bought my 700N, I just thought that the sim model would be close at least.

Its nothing like mine at all lol.
lift tuning is stock at 100%
cyclic tuning is up to 140% ( I was shocked how fast my 700 is with 11g SWE paddles and Maniac 2 703mm blades)
pitch is at 12.5 in the sim

collective pitch crispness is at 100%
collective response is at 120

The ONLY thing I do not like, is its virtually impossible to bog the heli's with any realism.
You can turn the power down, but then its underpowered lol.
What I REALLY want from Phoenix is some proper physics for how a loaded motor responds.
I have yet to work out how to tweak it to be even a little bit better.

If you bling it, they will come :D

gorn,

what is the upside to 2.5 over 2.0? I get that you have to tweak a little to get a better feel for a given heli but what about 2.5 compels you to make the effort?

well actually, you have to in 2.0 as well IMO.
It has never been perfect and most likely never will be.

Let me put it another way.
I have been able to put far more of the things I can do on the sim into practice since 2.5 came out.

Did it make me a better pilot, no.
But the gap between sim and real, at least for me, was narrowed by quite a bit, which in turn gave me more confidence to try these thing with my own heli's.

I praticed paint stirring tic tocks for 2 weeks on the sim.
2nd time out with my new 700, and what do ya know, Im doing it lol.

2.5 is by no means a step backward, not for me anyway.
Interface is better, I feel auto's are MORE realistic than 2.0, and the helis have more.... hmmm gravity to them when on knife edge.

Try it, if you dont like it, re-install 2.0.
Their both very good

If you bling it, they will come :D

Completed the upgrade all the way from 1.04 to 2.5s. I agree that if you are doing more than just learning to fly, you have some tuning ahead of you.
