Anyone using or have used Jeti Spin controllers esp. the
Spin99? Pros...cons?
Thanks.

Welcome to Runryder! Not many people are using it. You'll end up spending almost $340.00 for the ESC and programing box. I'd spend a little more for a Kontronik or a lot less for a CC. Just my opinion.

Thanks for the feedback. We've tried the jive 55 and CC HV85, HV110
It seems to be difficult to get the headspeed to stay constant. Through the flight, as the voltage drops, so does the head speed. Experimenting with different gear ratios helped some, but it seems that their head speed govs don't work very well. A flight that starts out exciting and ends up boring is NOT a big plus for the Es. Any thoughts about this...anyone??

What heli, what gearing have you tried, what motor, what packs?
Answer those question I can answer why your performance isnt at top, and what's your best bet to get it going.

(jeti isnt the answer)

Hello again;
By the way, thanks for the welcome in the earlier post, and the feedback so far. And also, it was not a Jive 55 but a Jazz 55.
The Jazz was on a 10S 600E drag racer (vid of it racing on one of the threads in drag racing, it was at Brooks Or. '07). Batteries EVO 3700
25C 5S. Gearing 170t main 17t pinion also tried 16t as I recall helped alittle, motor Actro 24-3 740KV. Flights started out at about 2300-2350 head speed and ended up at 2150-2200 not as big of drop as I remember but still too much. So in the same session we tried a spin 99 on it with the 16t pinion...the head speed stayed constant through the flights (3 or so). Some time around then we had an HV85 which I purchased new, on a 600E with a Tango 45-10 on 6S 20t pinion. The head speed started out at 2400 (that was fun) ended up at 2200. Never could get that to change much. After that went 10S with a spin 99
on "constant speed 3D" all head speed problems solved. Plus the spin box made the controller VERY easy to program, and also we could check
dynamic controller flight parameters after each flight (I mean what happened during the flight with the controller)...very easy to do that also with the spin box. It just seemed like an excellent controller all the way around!
I sound like I'm doing a sales pitch...I don't mean to do that, I'm just VERY impressed with the spin line. I have 6 now some different sizes, and they are awesome! The reason I started this thread is to find out why more people aren't using them. Has anyone accually experienced any negatives with them???

Have a few friends flying them, I havent seen a Jeti perform even as good as a CC, and no-where near a Kontronik to date.

My guess you where running 100% throttle with your CC/Kontronik, you need to give the governor headroom to work with. gear up if needed.

How much headroom is dependant on how good packs you run.

Not sure what you mean by this, power output, motor control, head speed control, flight time, acceleration speed, over heating and burning up...how is it not performing as well? Thanks

I'll have to say, I have six spin controllers and I've experienced just the opposite in all flight conditions. One example is my first 700E. I was a bit wild when I set it up. 2250 head speed with 710 blades, +-15 degrees of pitch, V-Bar w/mikado's 700 head conversion,
and weighs in at about 11.25 lbs with 5000 6S X 2. This thing has scarry power, but it's very exciting to fly. It holds motor and therefore head speed under the most extreme loads going up almost out of site like a rocket. When Matt Botos flew it, he flew it straight and very fast and said it was going well over 100. He was VERY impressed with the power and RPM holding capability. Unfortunatly at this high head speed it pulls the batts down to nominal in 4.5 mins. However it's a kick azz four and a half mins. When Krause flew it he
did not like it. He said it was TOO MUCH. Too much what I asked, he said too much POWER, too much head speed, too much collective, and too much cyclic (too be smooth). Even with all of this, it's difficult to pull the motor down much at all. The Spin holds the rpm
extremely well under all flight conditions and doesn't have to be over geared to be consistant throughout the flight. I could say much more, but I'm more interested in hearing if anybody has accually experienced any negatives with a spin of any size...?
