I have owned an Align Starter for about 6 weeks and I am very pleased so far. The only issue I am having is that my starter shaft is starting to get stuck in the coupler on my heli's. Anyone else having this issue?

Since you say it just started happening, what that sounds like to me is that either the coupler or the shaft is beginning to round off on the corners.

Before you know it, you won't have a sticking problem but a slipping problem.

3 years is enough time wasted. Taking a break for a while.

Yes the shaft itself looks like it is starting to round. WTF. Already? Not cool.

I have actually had good experiences with Align products up until now. I am wondering if others with the starter are having this issue, I have only been using it to start my 600 and 700.

I purchased the align starter about 2 weeks ago. Needed it for the 700LE. I had the same problem. I just filed it down a bit. Now it fits every heli fine.

Maple syrup is supposed to be on the table before the pancakes.

On the trex 700 of my friend and on my Extreme50 too, I just wanted to try it but quickly turned back to my old and trusty starter

Talked to an Align Rep today at the Mac Hodges Fun fly. He said that Align knows about the problem and will replace the shaft for free. All you have to do is contact the dealer where you bought the starter and they can send a replacement.

See Bert's update below.

I purchased 2 last month from Helidirect for a friend and myself and we both are having the same issue. I contacted Helidirect and they are telling me to contact Align for the replacement.

Hello all,

First, I need to start by offering my apologies for creating any confusion. Being a factory pilot, I rely on rep input for a lot of these small things and I was misinformed by a couple of reps concerning this issue.

I spoke with the factory earlier and Align is not replacing shafts at this time due to the fact that 1) not all shafts have problems and 2) the shafts that have a problem can be fixed very easily by removing some of the material like Halert71 did. Just take a file or a dremel tool and carefully remove a little bit of material and this will allow the shaft to fit in the coupler without sticking.

Also, not all starter shafts have this problem, it is just a matter of tolerances during the manufacturing process that cause some of them to be slightly bigger than others.

Again, I'm sorry for creating any confusion concerning this issue.
