October 14th 2009
New update released:

New features, improvements and fixes

• Added new channel filtering for DX6i transmitters
• Fixed a rare stability issue with retractable landing gear
• Jetcopter tail rotor now breaks correctly
• Chinook now hotstarts correctly and functions correctly under autorotation training

If the wings are traveling faster than the fuselage, it's probably a helicopter.

The physics in version 2.5s haven't been fixed as of yet. It doesn't fly like the real thing or even close to as well as 2.0n.

Inverted auto's off.
Collective pop off
cyclic feels like everything is flybarless.

The T-rex 700N flies like a 500 Electric Flybarless.

I'm frustrated with Phoenix

IT's what I do.

I thought one could set up so the model runs out of fuel?

floop I think you nailed it, I am also very dissapointed with phoenix.

You will need to adjust the models to your preference. I've got my 600n in phoenix very close to my real 600n.

Im curious,

Autos, yes, I agree.

But the rest, I mean there is settings for all of it, what is it that makes you not being able to adjust it to your liking?

Btw, I only fly FBL machines, and I dont know what you mean with "flies like FBL" really?
Since the core effect of FBL isnt really in phoenix at the moment (airspeed shouldnt affect cyclic speed as much, as it does on paddle helis)

Laptop or home computer?

Do any of you use Phoenix on a laptop or do you recommend it on a home computer? I'll be getting a new one either way but would prefer a laptop if it will run well on it. Thanks!

Every model in Phoenix is tuneable to your own tastes.
The models come as a good middle ground starting point, but as everybody's model is different there will no doubt be a need for you to tweak to your liking.

I find Autos pretty damn good now - certainly the best they have ever been in Phoenix as compared to the real thing.

What specifically is the problem with the physics that you are talking about?

Cheers,
Rob

robgt,

Do you work for Phoenix? This isn't a matter of tweaking. The Physics are way off compared to the real thing and further off than 2.0n was. Reinstall 2.0n and fly it for a while with no model tweaking. Then upgrade to 2.5s and let us know what you think.

IT's what I do.

Might be that the models are different default, but you can still tweak it, I tweaked the aurora to fly like my logos, so its doable.

Same goes for every sim, no-one will fly like all helis, real helis dont fly equal either...

Hi,
No, I don't work for Phoenix.

I disagree with your assessment, having flown Phoenix from the very first release I have found it has constantly improved with each version.

If you can be specific about what you think is wrong, perhaps Pheonix can address it. Just saying it's wrong and "I'm off back to a previous version" helps nobody. Be specific, they might be able to address specifics.

What did it do in version 2.0 that you now think it does wrong/differently?

Cheers,
Rob

robgt, I don't know what your skill level is but here is a list of the things that are different in 2.5s from real life and worse than 2.0n

1. Inverted autos: You can't recover headspeed and or flare as you can in real life or 2.0n.
2. Collective pop: Try a rainbow with extreme collective pop at the end. The pop is way to great. Unlike 2.0n which performs like real life.
3. Cyclic control: Everything around center feels to smooth and not linear. It kind of feels like a modified flybarless setup. Real life models like the T-rex 700 fly different. 2.0n more closely modeled that.
4. Funnels and piro funnels: The models are much more difficult to grove into a funnel. Real life is much easier and 2.0n was closer.
5. Engine power: The T-rex 700 flies like a 24s lipo setup with 300 amps. It is crazy and unboggable. Yes you can tune the engine power but when you try you will find no happy medium and because of the 1-4 weirdness above it wont work.

I have played with all of the settings. You can't get rid of the weird behavior I describe in 2.5s.

IT's what I do.

All of the items you list are tuneable with the exception of inverted autos - to a degree.
You could increase blade inertia a little to give you more auto potential but be aware that changing that value can have effects elsewhere in the flight model.
Collective pop has a slider assigned to it and can be tweaked to your preference.
Cyclics have sliders and overall governing values that allow you to make it as reactive or stable as you like.
I would agree with your point on funnels to a degree. I know this is an area Runtime are looking for improvement in. This, I think, is due to the issues of modelling a mix of translational lift and knife-edge lift. It has never been as easy in Phoenix to do this manoeuvre as it is in real life - so far.
Engine power is all tuneable too.
A good place to start would be in the cyclic loading percentage, so that you get more power dropping off when performing manoeuvres such as sideways tic-tocks where sustained pitch and cyclic inputs can load the heli sigificantly - and even more so with less skilled pitch management.

None of the above are to do with the physics of the simulator - they are all to do with model tuning - this could be why you are seeing a difference between version 2.0 and the current version as all of the models have gone through some form of retuning.

Cheers,
Rob

Your points are moot.

1. The supplied tuning mechanisms do not allow the issues I described to be fixed and the model to fly like it should.

Most important:
2. Phoenix is a learning tool. Most of the people using it are learning to fly. How are they supposed to tune out the physics problems?

IT's what I do.
