My Posts This: Topic Forum | Well what can I say, I checked the tail over loosened the small grub screws and moved the input gear in slightly which reduced the backlash in the gears to an acceptable amount. I still had a slight issue with the tail drifting so I replaced the mounting foam on my gyro. Took it up, minimal drift and seemed to be flying really nicely. Nothing too strenuous just gentle figure of 8's and then brought it round into a tail in hover. Here endeth the life of one Spectra G, the tail let go BIG TIME and despite being only about 8 - 10 feet off the ground the combination of no tail and panic saw it doing a monumental funky chicken and eating itself alive. I almost managed to land it, albeit a bit heavy, and there in was the start of it's downfall. Just as it touched down it tipped over on the uneven ground and in my panic to hit the throttle kill I never even noticed that I'd caught the idle up switch. Now with me frantically flicking the throttle kill, blissfully unaware of the idle up switch, I couldn't work out why it was not shutting off. I pulled the trim all the way down and still nothing. By this time there was almost nothing left of the heli so I ran over and pulled the fuel pipe off the carb. On picking it up the circlip holding the tail output shaft in had popped out and the tail rotor shaft had come right through, and I hadn't even touched this when I checked the tail over. I fear the list of parts to rebuild the heli will be too long and expensive to make it worth while repairing. I certainly don't have the inclination to repair something that's been nothing but trouble since the day I had it. Still if the electrics can be salvaged then at least they can go in a replacement.
