Hey guys
Its looking like I may finally get off my lazy ass and finish my LONG term project lol.
I know I know, its been ages.

So Im hoping to have it finished by the weekend for our local funfly.
We will see, and yes I will try.

So today I switched the mechanics over to flybarless.
97% was dead easy, no mods required.
The other 3% is trimming the washout arms long ends off (I used plastic HDX500 arms) and tapping the washout base on both sides for some grub screws to lock it in position on the main shaft.

So I have to get hold of an M3 tap and some M3 grub screws this week ASAP.

Im using a new 3 axis flybarless system, not available yet, trying it out for my weekend boss at the hobby shop.

I gotta say, it now looks very slick and modern.
Even with the Manga cartoon style glass canopy (which I love by the way).

Jobs for the week:
Mount and wire the barless electronics
Programme the unit (wont take long, been at it on another heli already)
Tap washout base
Finish mount for tail servo

I will post some pics of the head soon.
Its late at night here, and pics always suck in room light.

My QJ is not dead.....it was just having a long sleep.
Now Ive poked it with a "wake the hell up" stick lol.

Cheers

If you bling it, they will come :D

Hmmm, no'one is even remotely interested huh?
Ahhh well

Heres a few pics showing the head.

I spent half a day today wiring it all and mounting the tail servo (finally).
Tomorrow I have to drill some 3mm holes in the washout base, and then buy an M3 tap to thread the holes.
Couple of M3 grubs screws in there, presto, swash driver

If you bling it, they will come :D

Hey Gorn, very nice hope it flies well. The q of j forum has died lately??????.
I have not flown my EP8ex for ages come to think of it I have not flown for ages either....

I have also noticed that there has been a lot of flybarless units being sold second hand. People don't like them or too much trouble etc.

Good luck with the flight.

Peeko
No price yet, this unit hasnt had public release.

Clive
Yeah I noticed it was quiet here.
Was also a good reason to get off my lazy bum and do something about it.
So a flybarless EP8 was a good reason lol.
Im thinking that rather than mod the stock washout base (a pain, and I will most likely suff it up), I may go and buy the Gaui EP550 washout driver which is a direct fit.

Cheers

That sound like a good idea as long as the price is rite, be a shame to crash for such a small part also you don't have to buy the tap and drill.
What sort of money is the flybarless for the ep8 (ball park)

around $400AU.
Testing to see if we will be selling them.
Its a pre release unit, so their may be some changes to it before public release.
We will see I guess

Gorn,

Outstanding project, congrats!

Quick of Japan is currently designing a Flybarless Head for the EP-8/9. It will be available soon from [url=www.virusflyer.ch].

The Titan Mainshaft for the EP-9 is now shipping, by the way...

Titan main shaft?

Test flew the QJ.
Scred my pants off at first lift off.
WAYYYYY to much cyclic throw and extremely twitchy.
Got that sorted, now much more locked in.
Cant fly it around yet as their is a weird delay to collective inputs.
Ahhh the joys of working with flybarless lol.

So far it looks very promising.
Cheers

well Ive started to put the flybar back on lol.
Ive done my testing, and IMO the system needs more work.
So I just have to catch up with my mate this week for some swash and washout balls that Im short of.
Im gunning for some 3d flights this weekend if not sooner.

What did I learn?
Flybarless IS the way forward.
It can be very frustrating, and a tad scary too lol.
The QJ will be a weapon when flybarless.

So whats next for mine?
Well, now that its finally flying, its time to see if it can cut it in flybarred form.

I did a dummy fit of a Fusuno Trex 500 canopy last week, fits easily on the Twinring frame, and covers any lipo.
So I may have a nice red canopy this week lol.

So the to do list again:
get some new swash and washout lever balls
fit Spartan gyro
radio setup
Basic head setup

Once I have the balls I need, Im thinking it will be RTF in under 2hrs.
Providing all goes well, I will have video of it getting smacked by the end of next weekend

If you bling it, they will come :D

Interesting development!!!

It may not be an issue with the Flybarless system after all, at least not on the EP8.
I was just putting the swash leveller on the heli, cycling the servos up and down a bit to see if there was any rocking of the swash through its travel.
On about the 3rd cycle, 2 of the servo's were making a lot of buzzing.
Hmmm, so I pull on the servo arms, and lo and behold, I could move them with my fingers thoguh about 20deg motion
After a little while the servo pulls harder and goes back to normal!

So I either have some probs with the servos, which have maybe 3 flights on them since new, or my BEC is kaput
Will borrow my mates 85MG servo's to see which part is the issue.

The good news is, project "crazy EP8", may not be over

If you bling it, they will come :D

its not the BEC.
Plugged a NICD into the RX, same issue.

Once again Hitec prove to me that they make rubbish servo's.
I have always had bad luck with the entire line of 80 series servo's.
81/82/85 BB and MG, run on 5v and 6v.
Same thing each time, they crap out in short order.
I have had it with these.
Even if I have to Dremel away at the frame, I WILL be putting some decent servo's in, and never again will I buy Hi-crap servo's.

If you bling it, they will come :D

Bought some In-Lab 251MG servos today.
They fit!!

Finally a digital metal geared servo that will fit the QJ
They are 4.8kg and 0.15sec at 4.8v
at 6v they are 5.6kg and 0.12sec

So I will be running them at 6v

If you bling it, they will come :D
