Has anyone managed to change the main gear of a Hawk Pro without splitting the heli? It looks possible but so is landing on the moon.

of couse it is possible
if it is the lower gear you're thinking about, undo the grub screw on the metal pinion, the shaft should then slide out through the bottom.

i did it all the time on my raven and still do on my nx50 but it's a bit tighter with the new taller heavy duty gear. i think its the same deal on the hawk.

1) remove the main gear/shaft bolt.
2) loosen set screws on main shaft collar
3) unlink bellcrank to swash links
4) pull the rotor head out
5) main gear should come out the side, sometimes rotating it on the way out helps but i dont think its necessary with the old gear

The crown gear? That drives the tail bevel gear? Yes it fits thru, tight but it does pull out. Some people change the counter shaft w/o a frame split, I have always felt the need to get at the bearings so I do split the frame for main bearings, counter shaft & bearings and tail shaft/bearings. Many times I will not even pull the main shaft on a frame split, makes it pretty fast to get inside the frame. Ive never times it but Id bet I could go from a complete RTF heli, split the frame, replace all the bearings and reassemble RTF in less than 1.5 hrs. Then having only to wait for locktite curing......Especially on a Hawk since the Raven needs to have the servos removed. The NX is much faster than the Raven BTW.

The good ole times are now ,Hawk, Raven,NX50, Logo10,Swift

^^^ +1 probably the best non performance related upgrade in the NX50. Even if i had to split the frame it's a lot faster now.

I have yet to split the frames on the hawk pro except to replace bearings. Everything else is doable...

To change the main gear on a hawk is simple just remove the botl at the bottom and lossen the collar undo the linkages and pull the main shaft up pull the gear out slide in a new one and reverse the previous. No need to splt the frames for a main gear or most any other gear either for that matter except to replace bearings.
