Are there any good sites that give comprehensive instructions in English and not German literal translations? I'm having a difficult time understanding what the manual actually means ... "Slider"? (I assume that is the output position).

Like the GyroBot, I had to read it quite a few times and re-setup a few times before I got it right.

Thanks.

EDIT: one part that is confusing me a little is Mode 11 is Heli with Governor, but the instructions go to Mode 4.

I havent tried myself yet as I havent upgraded mine yet, but most program Mode1 (reset) then Mode 4 (gov) then Mode 11.

Their "Slider" is a 0-100 curve basically, i.e. throttle output.

If I read you correctly, after I go into Mode 4, then I do it again and wait for 11 beeps? If so, the manual doesn't even state this at all.

A few other things have 'kept me awake'.

1. I've programmed it for Mode 4 for now. When I throttle up, after about 60% the headspeed doesn't seem to speed up anymore.

2. On ProgramCard 1, there is the ability to program "single stick positions". How do you do this?

You would select fixed instead of APM mode then you just put your stick in the position noted on the card and hold the set button down. You have to have the programming card plugged into the receiver throttle channel and a battery to power up the receiver. The main flight battery has to be plugged in for this to work as well. This is not clear in the programming instructions. This works on the power Jazz and Jive speed controlls. After you do this you will have 0-100% output. So when you set a 75% flat throttle curve you will be at 75% throttle.

Sorry to belay this topic ... you said plug the ProgCard to the ESC and the Rx? On the ProgCard, there are 2 connections: ESC and Battery. What do I plug and to where?

Thanks.

not to be a jerk about it, but the proper sequence for making these connections and why is in that thread I just posted.

edit- I'm looking at your question and doing the same thinking as you about that right now, I know I saw the answer somewhere.
Just for trying it, connect power from your RX battery to this as well as to the Rx, it's low voltage so it couldn't hurt it and if it doesn't work then search the thread I posted for an answer.
However, it does say below to connect the "Main Battery" to the "Controller"
============================================================

"Yes indeed, i hope this thread can help others solving similar problems, since the manufacturer arent able to do that themselves

Might as well paste this in here:

1. Connect the Power Jazz to the ProgrCARD
2. Connect the ProgrCARD to the correct channel in the receiver
3. connect the receiver battery to the receiver
4. connect the main battery to the controller

Settings should be

Brake off

Battery Type (what you use)

Battery empty Cut OFF!

Cut off at (like you want)

Start Up doesnt matter, it's not active with activated rpm control

Timing Auto

RPM control ON

Start Up time 12s

Stick positions fixed

Set motor off position

- Move your slider, stick or switch to the motor off position.

Push the button for about 2 secs

Set Full gas position

- Move your slider, stick or switch to the motor full gas position.

Push the button for about 2 secs

Just push through the the Brake mode (airplane only, otherwise your blades will fold) also 2 secs, then when "reset" led lit up, its programmed

One step closer to success now"

Understood, but just to be on the safe side, the Battery Terminal on the ProgCard goes to the Rx Throttle, right? I've already blown up one Jive+HV, don't want to blow up another, a very expensive endeavour.

Okay.

1. Connect the Power Jazz to the ProgrCARD (ESC to Card)
2. Connect the ProgrCARD to the correct channel in the receiver (Card to Rx)(Throttle)
3. connect the receiver battery to the receiver (this powers the Card through the Rx)
4. connect the main battery to the controller (ESC)

Thanks. I'll try it.

Edit: I'll plug the ESC to the ESC terminal on the ProgCard and then the Throttle Channel of the Receiver to the Battery terminal of the ProgCard, then power up everything. The confusion for me is the labels on the ProgCard.

Here it is!

"Ok let's start from the beginning.

You have the ESC plugged into the ESC port on the card.
You have a wire from the program card battery port to the RX's throttle. Make sure this wire has three wires (white, red, black) and not just two (red, black).
You have the main Lipo batteries plugged into the ESC. If this is unplugged the red lights will not turn on.
You have the motor plugged into the ESC.

You have a RX battery plugged into your BEC.

Make sure the orientation of the plugs are correct. I had this happen to me before.

Turn TX and RX on. What happens?"

Thanks a million ... you should see the hole in my wooden desk when 12S worth of batteries went bang and a bright glow of light while I was plugging it into the Jive+HV. After a few seconds when I could see again, there was moulton solder on my desk and all my fingers were literally black from the flash explosion. Luckily no fire.

Glad to hear it. Yes, the labels on the card are misleading to say the least. Here is another thread with some good info about the Jive.

http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/t447355p1/

You should have taken a picture of your desk! As you say expensive endeavor...the mfg. should understand their lack of a intelligent manual is a big problem.

Honestly, don't know.

The Deans 'melted', so I can only think it was a short circuit somewhere. The ESC seemed OK on inspection, no burning smell or anything.

So, I re-soldered a new Dean to the ESC, and of course to the Serial Battery Connection and cautiously plugged it in again. No 'explosion' this time. However, the ESC gave an error or "Unexpected Reset" and didn't work.

If you had an event like that the ECS is more than likely junk now. Seablade did a good job on the connection explanation and that is how I do it on the Power Jazz and the Jive.

wasn't mine! I just copied and pasted from other peoples FRUSTRATIONS!

If we were not such a minority market and this stuff was going out to mass consumers the vendors info would have to be better.
As it is we are paying high prices for poor documentation.
I think they should have two price scales-one to include their manuals and one without at about half the price!
For all vendors, not just the ESC vendors -
a link on their websites to the forum threads where the easy to understand info is! At the very least the some vendors with hard to follow documentation could copy the info and make a manual!

another thread about setting up a Jazz, (not a PowerJazz) using the audio signals.
This was originally posted by Gerd, owner of minicopter.de, where the Joker line of great heli's come from.
