Just watched another video of the OS-55 in the hands of a PRO...after the flight he was asked some rather pointed questions about muffler size.

Gist of it...Could you gain from running a slightly larger (AKA NEW PURCHASE) muffler...maybe a slight amount.
OS wanted the new engine to run with the plethora of existing pipes already in use.

When I have $130 burning a hole in my pocket...then I'll get a new pipe.

lotta ins, lotta outs

Imagine how cheap 50 hypers are going to become very soon now that the 55 is getting around a little! That it's a drop in replacement only further serves to make this such an easy transition for those that have to have it.

When running the new HZ55 can you spin a larger blade?
IE: 620's?

Seriously, it's got PLENTY of power. I'm running 610's and just love this new monster.

In fact, I love it so much all ready I'll be posting my OS-70, Haitori SB-70 & Pantera BBC for sale here shortly to get another HZ-55 and try out the OS muffler this time.

Yeah, for the 3D minded I think the OS55 instantly obsoletes the BBC. Lighter weight, better balance yet comparable power.

I went to my LHS and tried to order a 55. I was told that "no one could get it as it's still not ready". I told them that we have a folks that are flying the 55. I was told that "your smoking crack"
So I ask. What vendor has the 55 so I can "in your face" my LHS.
I don't think the BBC is dead. We are flying far larger engines then the 55.
If your not flying your not trying.

Thanks Tint.
Thats the stuff I needed to know. The help at my LHS always thinks he knows more then the RR gang. Poor lad. I need to talk to his boss.
Thanks again for the input.

You need a new hobby shop there Bill. The OS55 is available. Hobbyhut and Heliproz show it in stock. Actually you're ahead of me here. My local hobby shop wouldnt have even known there was a new OS heli engine coming out.

MY LHS is a great link to getting stuff. It's always the help behind the counter that will kill a biz. He was so "bigger then god" that the 55 was still in proto. I will have a chat with the owner as he is a real good guy. I have done biz with the LHS for 20 years. It's the help that will kill the biz.

I totally agree. I love when you hear an employee say about their work.... "They don't pay me enough to care". truth is, people like that are never satisfied. Anyway, the 55 is out and available and I look forward to the secondary market. hehe. I'll buy used.
