My Posts This: Topic Forum | LovemyTrex, I've seen lots of canopies, and they all look pretty damn similar to me.
But let us say, for argument's sake, that you are right.
THIS IS A STINKING TOY HELICOPTER CANOPY we are talking about here!! It isn't a $70,000 custom-built chopper! Nobody in their right mind is going to look at a R/C helicopter canopy paint-job so closely. Anyone who cares about 'orange peel' in the clear-coat on an R/C helicopter canopy is certifiably insane.
I love flying these things and, yeah, I can definitely be an incredibly anal guy--but I'm anal in all aspects of my life, including my profession. (Just a few posts above I admitted to replacing a side-frame because I scratched it...although, I will add that I was also concerned about the scuffed side-frame being weakened, and that that was a major contributor to my decision to replace it). Even I don't care that much about a canopy paint-job. Why? Because, design notwithstanding, they are all practically the same. The clear-coat differences you cite suggest someone who takes this hobby way, WAY too seriously.
It's one thing if all the canopy painters charged the same price and if their wait-times were the same. Yeah, then I'd be inclined to go with the one who did better work. But from what I understand, InsaneCanopy is substantially more expensive and the wait time is longer! $240 f-ing dollars for a painted canopy? $180 for a JR Vibe 50 canopy?? Are you kidding me? The Vibe 50 canopy is a $50 item. That means InsaneCanopy charges $130 to paint the damn thing (and that's assuming that for $180 they supply the canopy).
Seriously, it's one thing to enjoy these things and want them to look nice. But to care that much about better clear-coat from one painter, and then pay an obscene amount of money for it is just plain ludicrous. |
