Only the wallet

Yeah, but typically the price difference between a 20A to 25A or 25A to 30A power supply isn't that significant. I also view a power supply as a long term purchase. I have a 20 year old Astron that's still going strong and if anything happens to it I can still call Astron today and get parts for it or have it serviced. Now, try and do that with a no-name made in China power supply.

I use a server powersuply I converted it is good for 70a at a very clean 12v. so if you can ever get your hands on an old server they make great power supplies.

The problem with using a 12V power supply is that many chargers require > 14v in order to be able to produce this maximum output. Some chargers even require 17v or higher to produce their max output.

All my power supplies are 13.8v or higher and I'm considering 24v since many new chargers can handle it.

Lastly, here in the US you can only get so many watts from a typical 120v 15A AC line. Many of the power supplies that actually put out 75A+ require a 20A AC line/receptacle.

Many years ago I had a Compaq ProLiant 5000 sitting in my office that I setup. I couldn't wait to get rid of that thing because of the noise.

You could put some more tame fans in it if you wanted to. You are not likely to use the entire output capacity of the PS, so there is no need to cool as such.

When selecting a power supply I'd recommend looking for one with a temperature controlled fan so the fan only comes on when necessary and the fan speed can be varied by the temperature as well.

The HP PS's fans is over-sized, they are to provide air to the whole computer, (If I put it 4 meters away it blows paper off the table...)

Im sure it would work with less fan speed.

Problem is that it has monitors on the fan, if the fan doesnt work "correctly" it shutdowns the PS.
Im currently working to circumvent that.

But as Ace Dude pointed out, they only supply 12v, so a 24v source would be better for Hyperion chargers as they run at 90% power output at 12v.

My goal is to get a good powersupply for my summer house, space in the car is limited each time with wife, dog, 2 kids

Pyramid Power Supplies

These power supplies are JUNK!....beware!

Cheap parts, poor construction, and over rated. I had one that couldn't handle anywhere near its rated power and gave off a toxic smell (from the transformer overheating) and then stopped working (transformer shorted out) blowing a fuse.

Their warranty is also lousy.....stay away from a Pyramid!

Here's what I'm using. Tried one of the Checkpoint units from RH, fried the second day of use. Decided to get serious. 30 amp, 30 volt, switching, lab grade Mastech 3030E. A little pricey, but no worries about clean consistent power!
